Prep Baseball Report's MN Winter Open event took place on Saturday, February 27, 2016. The event was held at Pitch2Pitch in Chanhassen, MN. The event featured prospects from Minnesota and North Dakota in the 2016-2017-2018 and 2019 classes who showcased their talents in front of our scouting staff and coaches in attendance.

5-foot-10, 165-pound left-handed hitting catcher. Shows solid carry to bag on throws with 2.05 pop time and 71 mph arm strength. Quick hands receiving. Beats ball to spot. Flexibility is good with low set-up and has lateral movement. Double tap trigger into stride. Slight should rotation to load. Creates bat speed with aggressive swing. Short to contact with pull approach. Flashes above avg. pop in bat. 75 mph exit velocity off tee.

5-foot-11, 175-pound right-handed hitting catcher. Open stance to start. Strides across body at contact. Deep load. Length to contact. Flashes pop in bat. Stays on baseball at contact. Inconsistent contact with mid-pull approach. 79 mph exit velocity. Shows avg. carry on throws with accuracy to bag. Throws are on-line at 71 mph with 2.1 pop time. Slight hitch in release. Flat footed behind dish- restricting mobility and lateral quickness. Average receiver.
Alec Holcomb, C/RHP, Owatonna, 2016
6-foot-2, 210-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. Wide receiving stance. Sits on toes with weight out front. Shows usable hands; slow at times to receive pitches. Slight length to release with above avg. arm strength at 79 mph. 2.1 pop times with solid accuracy to bag. Choppy rhythm in load. Strength in swing. Gap to gap approach with short finish after contact. 87 mph exit velocity off tee.

6-foot-2, 175-pound right-handed hitting catcher. Open stance with double tap trigger. Active load. Short to contact. Mid-pull approach. Flashes above avg. pop in bat. 80 mph exit velocity. High stance behind plate. Good hands. Receives well. Keeps ball in zone. Quick feet on blocks. 69 mph arm strength to bag. Consistently short to bag (1 hop). 2.19 pop times. Clean exchange on throws. Loses forward momentum on throws- falls off.
