Prep Baseball Report is excited for the return of Player of the Year Awards, presented by Big League Chew, after the 2020 season was cut short and 2021 generated some incredible individual moments and performances throughout Minnesota. As the spring high school season comes to a close, Prep Baseball Report is excited to announce one player who emerged ahead of the competition at all levels in the state. This player has been selected not only for their outstanding statistical numbers, but also for their overall effect on their high school program.

Josh Kingery

Kingery put up some big numbers both at the plate and on the mound.  The left-handed hitting 2-way player led his team to a Section 3AA title and onto the AA State Tournament. During the season, he was among leaders in  Minnesota in batting average at .547, hits with 41, the leader in runs scored at 45, and top 10 in both RBI with 32 and home runs with 7. Kingery also went 13-1 on the mound which was the most in the state. He threw 87 innings, allowing just 27 hits, only 4 walks and striking out a state best 182 batters.  He also finished with a .48 ERA.

Kingery’s all-around performance, as well as the impact he has had on Atwater Cosmos Grove City, has earned him the 2021 Prep Baseball Report Minnesota Player of the Year honors.

Josh has been selected by the staff of Prep Baseball Report of Minnesota. The team of PBR area scouts who covered the high school baseball season throughout the spring selected Kingery amongst a strong group of candidates from across the state. The Prep Baseball Report staff has been diligently scouting and covering games at diamonds across the state this spring to bring parents, athletes and fans the most comprehensive coverage of amateur baseball across the United States. The dedication and coverage allow Prep Baseball Report a credible way to identify the top athletes each year who best represent the state of Minnesota.
