Prep Baseball Report Minnesota

Jake Stevenson, RHP, Waconia, Class of 2015

PBR: Why did you choose the University of Minnesota?

STEVENSON: I chose The University of Minnesota for a lot of reasons such as the academics of the school and the way the baseball program has established itself. The coaching staff made me feel like part of the family. Coach Anderson has been doing an amazing job for a long time and I'm excited and honored to be a part of his team. It is also nice that it is near Waconia so my parents can come watch me play.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

STEVENSON: I had talked to other schools but I knew that The University of Minnesota was the school I wanted to go to.

PBR: Where did they first see you? How did your relationship develop with the coaching staff?

STEVENSON: I was first seen by them at the ScoutStop Showcase. It developed by a line of contact through emails and phone calls. We created a very good relationship through this contact.

PBR: What role do you expect to play your first year on campus?

STEVENSON: I am not sure what my role will be. I would like to contribute to the team in any way possible.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

STEVENSON: Collin Bender or Adam Barta had the biggest impact on my career as a baseball player. They both have taught me so much about baseball and how to become a better person.

PBR: What have you worked on/ improved since last year?

STEVENSON: I have worked a lot on my off-speed pitches. My changeup is something I hope to improve greatly on.

PBR: Who is the toughest player that you have faced in Minnesota?

STEVENSON: Eddie Estrada or Angelo Altavilla, both are very tough hitters. You cannot miss your spots when facing them otherwise they both will hit the ball very hard. Both are also extremely good defensive players.

PBR: What are your thoughts on the recruiting process? Any advice for future players in your position.

STEVENSON: I would say have fun with it! Don't stress too much about it. It is a very important decision but it only happens once so enjoy the process but more importantly enjoy playing baseball!
