Prep Baseball Report Minnesota

PBR Minnesota seeks to offer the most comprehensive coverage of prep baseball in the state of Minnesota. Our goal is to continue bringing recognition to those who play this game within the state and to showcase the deep talent pool that Minnesota is developing.
Derek comes from a smaller community in southern Minnesota where the spotlight can sometimes shine brighter on athletes than in some larger schools. Derek embraces this role well by not just leading on the field but also serving his community off of it. Pride in his town and his teammates is something Derek has his character deeply rooted in. Derek is a tremendous athlete who has school and state football records to his name to go with baseball accolades. He will be a staple as a leader in whatever locker room he chooses to walk into at the next level.

PBR: What schools have expressed interest in you?
SHOEN: A lot of NSIC schools. Places like Minnesota State-Mankato, St. Cloud St., Augustana, and Wayne St. in Nebraska are some of the early ones. There has also been some interest from NDSU and SDSU. Then Junior Colleges I've spoken with include Northern Iowa Area CC, Mchenry, and Iowa Lakes.

PBR: Have you taken any visits, or have any visits scheduled in the near future?
SHOEN: I've been on a lot of visits. I still need to go to MSU and Mchenry, but everything else from the list I have made visits to.

PBR: Are you looking for anything in particular in a school? (Example: high academics, certain academic program, local, etc.)
SHOEN: I just want to go to a school that wants me there as much as I want to be there.

PBR: What were some of your highlights during your junior year?
SHOEN: Making it to state for the first time in school history is something I'll never forget. Watching our three seniors all have a chance to go play baseball past high school at the collegiate level has set a new standard for baseball in our area.

PBR: What are your personal and team goals for this upcoming season?
SHOEN: As a team we of course would love to make it back to state. Personally I think raising the bar is always important. I think it would be feasible to have a sub 1 era and to be named to the all state team.

PBR: Do you play any other sports?
SHOEN: Basketball and Football

PBR: What is your ACT and GPA?
SHOEN: 20 ACT and 3.8 GPA
