Scouting Report

2018 PBR Future Games- Showed command of a FB that that sat consistent at 88 and occasionally touched 89. Working exclusively from the stretch he has some funk to his delivery that has an effect on hitters timing.

7/11/18- 6-foot-2, 170-pound right-handed throwing pitcher.  Good body with room to grow. Throws from open set position.  Long arms and athletic frame.  Lands and throws across body.  Fastball is thrown downhill at 84-86 mph with cut action.  Lands 11/5 shape curveball for strikes thrown at 66-67 mph.  Late run on 75-76 mph change-up with good arm speed.

3/17/18- 6-foot, 175-pound right-handed hitting pitcher. Sideways rocker step into uptempo balance point. Athletic delivery with loose actions. Slight wrap on backside but arm is fast and clean out front. Lands across body creating deception with violent head whack on release. Fastball was 85-86 mph with flashes of late arm-side run and sink. Shows arm speed on breaking ball, inconsistent, but flashes tighter spin and 11/5 shape. Cut action on changeup that should continue to develop into an above avg. pitch.

PBR: What schools have expressed interest in you?

Mahmood: I’ve had schools from the ACC, SEC, Big 10, West Coast Conference and Ivy League. Things really took off after the PBR Futures event.

PBR: Have you taken any visits, or have any visits scheduled in the near future?

Mahmood: I’ve been on about 6 visits. I’ve been to Duke, Wake Forest, Davidson, University of San Diego, Iowa and Army in the past few months. I’ve had some good offers, but my family decided a few months ago to move to California so I would like to stay close to them so I’m starting from scratch because I’ve only really looked at schools on the East Coast and South.

PBR: Are you looking for anything in particular in a school? (Example: high academics, certain academic program, local, etc.)

Mahmood: The number one thing for me is high academics. I want to use baseball to get into a school I couldn’t normally get into. When I first started getting into this, I never expected big time baseball schools to be interested in me, so I concentrated on high academic schools. Now that my baseball game has caught up to my grades, I’m trying to find a good balance between being able to compete at a high level and still get a good education.  Other things that are important are a good social life, a high female to male student ratio, but also a strong campus ministry program.

PBR: What were some of your highlights during your sophomore year?

Mahmood: The number one thing was winning our league against bigger schools like Chanhassen, Chaska, and St Louis Park. We lost a lot of seniors from the year before which gave me a good opportunity. On a personal level it was winning both of my games in sections, being named all-conference as a sophomore and being making the PBR Futures team.

PBR: What are your goals for this year?

Mahmood: Winning State is my #1 goal. I’m hoping to finalize recruiting before the season starts and just concentrate on helping our team compete. Also looking to get some at bats this year but we’d probably have to be far ahead in a game for that to happen.

PBR: Do you play any other sports?

Mahmood: I’m the leading scorer on the two rec basketball teams I play on. I also lead my teams in technical fouls. I used to play football, but I had to give that up to travel for Fall baseball.  I am also our neighborhood Ping Pong champ.

PBR: What is your ACT and GPA?

Mahmood: GPA 3.9 and ACT 29
