1.20.14 St. Louis Underclass: Outfield Analysis

On Monday, January 20 at River's Edge in Florissant, Missouri PBR held the St. Louis Underclass Showcase for the classes of 2016 and 2017.  Below is the Outfield Analysis. The outfielders displayed some pop in the bat, arm strength and foot speed.  Overall, it was a very talented mix of players. 

Bailey Vuylsteke (Oakville, 2016)
1/20/14 – Vuylsteke, one of the top athletes in the event,  is a projectable 6-foot 170-pound left handed hitting outfielder.  He recorded an event-best 86 MPH positional velo and ran a 7.2 60. He was consistently accurate with good carry on this throws.  He had a quick, clean exchange and was aggressive playing through the ball.  At the plate, he was equally aggressive.  His bat speed produced one of the top exit velos of the event at 84 MPH.  His stance is athletic and balanced with a toe-tap load.  Vuylsteke’s swing is level with pull power. 

Jacob Gonzales (Timberland, 2016)
1/20/14 – Gonzales is an athletic 5-foot-10 165-pound right handed hitting outfielder and one of the top performers of the event.  He recorded one of the top velos from the outfield at 81 mph and ran a 7.29 60.  Gonzales has a clean, fluid exchange that produces good carry and accurate throws to the bag.  Offensively, he displays a right handed swing with good bat speed that will produce gap-to-gap pop.  He recorded one of the top exit velos at the event at 83 MPH.

Cole Stamper (Eureka, 2016)
1/20/14 - Stamper is an athletic 5-foot-11 170-pound right hand hitting outfielder.  He posted an positional velo of 78 MPH with accurate throws to the base.  Stamper has a clean exchange and plays through the ball in the outfield.  At the plate, Stamper has a simple, short swing that produces a level path and gap-to-gap line drives. He recorded an exit velo of 77 MPH and ran a 7.22 60.

Harry Hegeman (MICDS, 2017)
1/20/14 – Hegeman is a projectable, athletic 5-foot-7 140-pound left handed hitting outfielder.  He ran one of the top 60 times in the event with a 7.09.  In the outfield, Hegeman has a fluid, clean exchange with throws that are close to the bag.  He had a positional velo of 76 MPH and his throw had good carry.  At the plate, he started from a balanced, athletic position and produces a level bat path with gap-to-gap line drives.  His top exit velo was recorded at 70 MPH.

Bryce Butler (Wentzville Holt, 2016)
1/20/14 – Butler is a very athletic 5-foot-9  135-pound left handed hitting outfielder.  Butler had one of the top 60 times in the event at 7.12 and has a positional velo of 80 mph.  In the outfield, Butler has a long arm swing and throws from a ¾ slot.  At the plate, Bulter starts from a balanced, athletic stance.  He has a level swing with an opposite field approach.  He has an exit velo of 69 MPH. 

Parker Heath (St. John Vianney, 2016)
1/20/14 – Heath is a solid 6-foot-5 230-pound right handed hitting outfielder.  He runs a 7.96 and has a positional velo of 79 mph.  He has a quick, clean exchange and plays through the ball in the outfield.  At the plate, Heath recorded an event-high 88 MPH exit velo.  He has a athletic set-up with an swing that can produce power to each gap.

Brandon Kelly (CBC, 2017)
1/20/14 – Kelly is an athletic 5-foot-6  140-pound right handed hitting outfielder.  In the outfield he showed a clean, fluid exchange with soft hands.  He throws from over the top and had an positional velo of 67 MPH making several accurate throws.  He had the top 60-time in the event at 7.0 seconds.  At the plate he starts with an athletic, balanced stance and has a small stride.  Kelly has a short path to the ball that produces opposite gap line drives.  His exit velo was 69 MPH.  

Douglas Payne (Eureka, 2017)
1/20/14 – Payne is a lanky 5-foot-6 125-pound right handed hitting outfielder.  He has a long, loose arm with an over-the-top delivery from the outfield. His throws had good carry and were accurate with a velo of 78 mph.  Payne ran a 7.38 60.  At the plate, Payne has a level swing that produces opposite gap line drives.  His exit velo was 75 mph.

Corey Price (Civic Memorial, 2017)
1/20/14 – Price is a 5-foot-8  147-pound left handed hitting outfielder.  Price has a ¾ delivery from the outfield and produces a velo of 72 MPH.  His fluid, clean exchange is consistently accurate from the outfield.  He runs an 8.12 60.  Offensively, Price starts in a balanced stance smooth load in his hands and weight.  He has a short, quick bat path that produces gap-to-gap line drives.  

Craig Theiss (De Soto, 2017)
1/20/14 -  Theiss is a solid and highly projectable 6-foot-6 205-pound right handed hitting outfielder.  He has a quick, clean exchange that puts the ball on the bag consistently.  His plays through the ball and produces a position velo of 73 MPH.  Theiss has a 7.41 60 time.  With the bat, he starts from an athletic, balanced stance and produces a level, quick bath path.  His swing has the ability to produce gap-to-gap power.  His exit velo is 71 mph.
