10.18 Underclass Games: Pitchers Analysis

On Saturday, October 18 Prep Baseball Report-Missouri held the Fall Underclass games at the University of Missouri in Columbia. In the days to come, we break down the players position-by-position. Today, we will start with the pitchers.
Twelve pitchers from across the state participated, 11 from the 2017 class and one from the class of 2018, making their statement for a spot on the 2015 Midwest Future Games. The talented group of pitchers highlighted the day, pounding the zone and challenging hitters. During game actions, hitters started with 1-1 count. Here is a look at the group of pitchers.

Top Pitching Prospect
Jake Hausmann, RHP, CBC, 2017
Hausmann is a wide-shouldered 6-foot-5 190-pound right-handed pitcher. Hausmann recorded five strikeouts in game action using 25 pitches. Fastball topped at 89 mph, working 85-87, high ¾ release with run, quick arm, throws with some effort, smooth rhythm, quick tempo between pitches, works both sides of plate, curveball at 69-71 mph, 11-to-5 shape, late break, fastball arm speed, developing feel for change-up at 79-81 mph, arm side release.

Breckner is a lean 6-foot-1 140-pound southpaw, works 70-75 with fastball, low ¾ release, fastball has sink and run, 2-to-8 shape slider, 59-62 mph, late, “sweeping” break, change-up at near fastball arm speed, 65-70 mph, arm side release, command of three pitches and mixes pitches well, throws strikes, worked to 9 hitters in 25 pitches, drops into back leg at balance point, throws with regular effort, stays in line, athletic finish.
Ty Buckner, RHP, Ladue, 2017
Buckner is an athletic 6-foot 170-pound right-handed pitcher. Fastball at 80-83 mph, touching 83 mph three times during his outing, has run and command, 10 strikes in 14 pitches, over-the-top release, fastball with life, curveball at 66-67 mph, 12-to-6 shape, late/sharp break, 74-75 mph change-up, arm side release, works three pitches in the zone, keeps tempo between pitches, works both sides of plate, throws strikes, projectable velo increase with arm action.
Jim Burns, RHP, Rockhurst, 2017
Burns is a lean 5-foot-10 150-pound right-handed pitcher. Burns works 71-75 mph with his fastball; slight run and sink, high ¾ release, easy effort, loose/quick arm speed, throws slider at 69-71 mph, change-up at near fastball arm speed; 69-71 mph, arm side release, projectable velocity and movement as strength is added.

Burns is a slim 5-foot-11 155-pound right-handed pitcher. Fastball has life with run at 75-78 mph, 12-to-6 curveball at 57-62 mph, late break, 67-73 mph change-up with arm side release, keeps hitters off balance with fastball/change; ¾ release, loose arm action, throws with regular effort, athletic finish, arm action is projectable for velocity increase.
Jake Evans, RHP, Park Hill South, 2017
Evans is an lean, athletic 6-foot-1 170-pound right-handed pitcher. Evans works 77-82 mph with is fastball, showing increase in velo since last event, fastball has life with run, high ¾ release, easy effort, quick/loose arm action, long arm swing from glove to release, 11-to-5 curveball at 68-69 mph, good command of change-up at 65-69 mph, arm side release. Works fastball and change-up in zone, smooth rhythm with good tempo between pitches, Evans is on upward trend showing increase in velocity and command since last event.
