6.17 2016 Top Prospect Games: Infield Analysis

On Tuesday, June 17 at the University of Central Missouri, Prep Baseball Report-Missouri held the 2016 Top Prospect Games.  Here is a look at the infielders for the event.  Although some players pitched, this is just a look at the infield positions.  We have broken down the pitchers and outfielders.  Catchers will be added later in the week.

Infield Top Prospects 

Chris Cornelius (Vianney, SS, 2016)
6/17/14 – Cornelius is a 6-foot 180-pound shortstop. Cornelius had a positional velo of 82 MPH using an over-the-top release.  He showed quick hands and smooth footwook, making clean exchanges and accurate throws.  At the plate, Cornelius uses a controlled leg kick to start his swing and has a level swing path through extension.  He has a gap-to-gap approach, and squared up the ball consistently during batting practice.  He has an exit velo of 87 MPH, runs a 4.56 home-to-first and a 6.94 60. 

Avery Jennings (Rock Bridge, SS, 2016)
6/17/14 – Jenning is a strong 5-foot-11 175-pound shortstop.  Jennings has a positional velo of 86 MPH using smooth footwork and quick ¾ release.  He has a quick, clean glove-to-hand exchange.  Offensively, Jennings has a exit velo of 86 MPH.  He uses an athletic stance leg kick for timing.  Jennings has a level swing through extension with a gap-to-gap approach.  He runs a 4.69 home-to-first and 7.45 60. 

Justin Perkins (Francis Howell, 1B, 2016)
6/17/14 – Perkins is a physical 6-foot-2 195-pound first-baseman.  Perkins moves with a purpose at 1B, showing aggressive actions to the ball.  He has soft hands and make accurate throws.  At the plate, Perkins attack the ball with a strong lower half.  He produces a fast, level bat path through extension.  He has a gap-to-gap approach with pull power.  Perkins has an 86 MPH exit velo and runs a 4.62 home-to-first with a 7.48 60. 

JD Murders (Bolivar, SS, 2016)
6/17/14 – Murders is an athletic, projectable 6-foot-1 170-pound shortstop.  Murders has advanced actions on the infield.  He has soft hands with a quick release.  Murders has quick footwork and throws from a high ¾ release.  He has good accuracy on this throws, with a positional velo of 79 MPH.  Murders is a left-handed hitter with a 74 MPH exit velo.  He has an athletic stance with good rhythm.  He has a gap-to-gap approach with pull power.  Murders has repeatable swing mechanics with a fast bat.  He runs a 4.56 home-to-first.

Daniel Ampleman (CBC, SS, 2016)
6/17/14 – Ampleman is a 5-foot-9 168-pound shortstop.  Ampleman has a positional velo of 75 MPH and made accurate throws across the field.  He has smooth footwork with a clean exchange, showing the ability to play through the ball.  At the plate, Ampleman has an exit velo of 75 MPH with a line drive approach.  He has a smooth load and hit against a stiff front leg. Ampleman runs a 4.72 home-to-first and posted a 7.08 60. 

Hunter Dame (Conway, SS, 2016)
6/17/14 – Dame is a strong 6-foot-1 185-pound third baseman.  Dame has a clean exchange and make mostly accurate throws across the field.  He has a positional velo of 86 MPH.  Offensively, Dame has a smooth load and attacks the ball with a fast bat.  He has a level bat path through extension with pull power.  Dame runs a 4.88 home-to-first and a 7.84 60.  He posted an 82 MPH exit velo.  

Kyle Giefer (Kickapoo, 1B/OF, 2016)
6/17/14 - Giefer is a 6-foot-0 184-pound left handed hitting 1B/OF.  In the outfield, Giefer had a positional velo of 82 MPH, showing aggressive actions to the ball.  He has a clean hand-to-glove exchange and made mostly accurate throws to his target. On the infield, Giefer showed quick feet and an accurate arm that put the ball on the money on his throws.  He has soft hands and good range at 1B. He has a 3/4 release and a quick arm at both He has a 3/4 release and a quick arm at both 1B and OF. He had an outfield velo of 82 MPH and an infield velo of 80 MPH. Offensively, Geifer starts with relaxed hands and minimal load.  He has a short, quick swing with a gap-to-gap approach that can produce power to pull gap.  Giefer produces good bat speed and posted an exit velocity of 82 MPH.  Giefer runs a 4.28 home-to-first and a 7.19 60.  

Alex Hackworth (Parkway South, 2B/MIF, 2016)
6/17/14 – Hackworth is a slick fielding 5-foot-9, 140-pound second-baseman.  He showed quick feet with a clean, quick hand-to-glove exchange.  He makes accurate throws and has a quick ¾ release with a positional velo of 77 MPH.  Offensively, Hackworth has a simple, repeatable swing mechanics.  He has a line drive approach with a level bat path. He has an exit velo of 75 MPH and runs a 4.69 home-to-first.  Hackworth runs a 60 in 7.72 seconds.

Joe Kinder (Liberty, SS, 2016)
6/17/14 – Kinder is an athletic 6-foot-3 168-pound shortstop.  Kinder has quick feet and moves to the ball with easy actions.  He has a fluid hand-to-glove exchange and a positional velo of 76 MPH, making mostly accurate throws.  At the plate, Kinder squared up the ball on all four of his at-bats during the scrimmage, with a pair of hits to show for it.  He has a balanced, athletic stance and a level bat path.  He has an exit velo of 83 MPH and has one the event best home-to-first times at 4.25.  He runs a 7.06 60. 

Alex Moore (Mountain Grove, 1B, 2016)
6/17/14 – Moore is a 6-foot-7 204-pound first-baseman.  During the defensive drills, Moore showed quick feet and made mostly accurate throws.  He has a ¾ release and a positional velo of 79 MPH.  At the plate, Moore starts in an athletic position and has a gap-to-gap approach.  He has an exit velo of 87 MPH and runs a 4.60 home-to-first with a 7.52 60. 

Isaac Olson (Chaminade, 3B, 2016)
6/17/14 – Olson is a projectable 6-foot-6 187-pound third baseman.  Olson has an over-the-top release with a positional velo of 79 MPH.  He has soft hands with a fluid exchange and plays through the ball. He made accurate throws to first base.  During batting practice, Olson used the middle of the field and showed power to the pull gap.  He has a level bat path with a good bat speed.  He runs a 4.6 home-to-first and a 7.45 60.   

Harrison Schnurbusch (Lee’s Summit West, SS, 2016)
6/17/14 – Schnurbusch is a projectable 5-foot-11 150-pound SS.  Schnurbusch has quick feet and a quick release.  He has aggressive actions getting to the ball and has soft hands with a quick hand-to-glove exchange.  Schnurbusch has a positional velo of 79 MPH.  At the plate, Schnurbusch uses a toe touch for timing.  He has quick bat speed with a level bat path.  He showed the ability to use both gaps with a line drive approach during batting practice.  Schnurbusch has a 82 MPH exit velo and runs a 4.5 home-to-first.  

Kaleb Schmidt (Kickapoo, 3B, 2016)
6/17/14 – Schmidt is a 5-foot-10 160-pound third baseman.  Schmidt has a positional velo of 85 MPH, one of the top for the event.  He has a high ¾ release and plays through the ball.  Schmidt has a clean, quick hand-to-glove transfer and makes mostly accurate throws.  At the plate, Schmidt line drive approach with some pop to his pull gap.  He has a minimal stride with repeatable mechanics.  Schmidt posted an exit velo of 80 MPH.  He runs a 4.63 home-to-first and a 7.66 60.  

Tristan Stevens (Kickapoo, 2B/MIF, 2016)
6/17/14 – Stevens is a 6-foot-1 162-pound second-baseman. Stevens has soft hands with a clean exchange at 2B.  He has smooth footwork and gets to the ball with aggressive actions.  He made accurate throws at 83 MPH.  At the plate, Stevens starts with an athletic position and has a smooth load.  He has a level bat path with extension. He has a line-drive approach to both gaps and average bat speed.  He has an 83 MPH exit velo with a 4.8 home-to-first. During the scrimmage, Stevens smashed a double down the left field line. 

Dusty Stroup (Lee’s Summit West, SS, 2016)
6/17/14 – Stroup is strong a 6-foot-2 160-pound shortstop.  He has quick hand-to-glove exchange and high ¾ release, resulting in a positional velo of 78 MPH.  Stroup made accurate throws to first and showed the ability to play through the ball.  At the plate, Stroup showed power to the pull gap.  He starts with an open stance and produces a fast bat.  He had one of the best exit velos of the event at 87 MPH, runs a 4.6 home-to-first and a 7.16 60.  

Hunter Swift (Staley, 1B/OF, 2016)
6/17/14 - Swift is a strong 5-foot-7 165-pound left handed hitting 1B/OF.  In the outfield, Swift posted throws at 80 MPH with mostly accurate throws and good carry.  He had aggressive actions and fluid to the ball, working behind the ball.  On the infield, Swift showed good feet and a quick hand-to-glove exchange.  He had an positional velo of 78 MPH and made somewhat accurate throws.  He has soft hands and a high 3/4 release in both the outfield and infield.  Offensively, Swift starts with an open stance and uses a small leg kick.  He has a strong lower half and has a line drive approach, mostly in the pull in the gap.  Swift has a level bat path and generates good bat speed.  He runs a 4.31 home-to-first and recorded an 86 MPH exit velo.
