6.4 Underclass Games at SLU: Infield Analysis

On Tuesday, June 4, Prep Baseball Report-Missouri held the Underclass Games at Saint Louis University.  Today we will take a look at the infielders.  We will break down the infielders into two groups, middle infielders and corner infielders.  Here's a look at the group.

Middle Infielders

Jaxon Passino (Rockwood Summit, 2017)
Passino is a true middle infielder with very natural actions. He plays through the ball and displayed a good carry on his throws. At the plate, he has a balanced setup with a smooth load. A line drive hitter with good pop, with an exit velo of 82. Took a good approach in his at bats.

Mark Vierling (CBC, 2017)
Vierling is an athletic 5-foot-10, 160-pound SS. Vierling is aggressive getting to the ball and has the ability to play through the ball. He has quick feet and a quick exchange. Vierling had a position velo of 82 MPH across the infield with mostly accurate throws and loose arm action. At the plate, Mark has an open setup, smooth load, and gets good extension. He has a gap-to-gap approach with good bat speed. He gets good backspin and consistently squared up the ball during batting practice. He has an 83 MPH exit velo.

Corner Infielders

John Bischoff (Chaminade, 2017)
Bischoff is a projectable 6-foot, 175-pound left hand hitting infielder. He throws from a 3/4 arm slot across the infield. He has soft hands and good lateral movements. His position velo was 75 MPH. At the plate, Bischoff has a balanced setup with an explosive lower half. He showed good overall balance through his swing with fast bat speed. John has good power to all fields. His exit velo was 79 MPH.

Jack Riney (Lafayette, 2017) Riney is a strong 6-foot-3, 190-pound right hand hitting first baseman. He shows average lateral movements with fairly soft hands for his size. His position velo was 78 MPH. At the plate, Riney is an imposing figure with a balanced setup and smooth load. He uses his lower half well and has fast bat speed. He has a short bat path with pull power with some lift. His exit velo was 87 MPH.

Hunter Becker (Chaminade, 2017)
Becker is an athletic 6-foot, 160-pound right hand hitting third baseman. He has an over-the-top delivery with very accurate throws. Hunter displayed soft hands and a quick exchange. His position velo was 72 MPH. At the plate, Becker has a balanced setup with a smooth load. He takes a short stride and uses his lower half well. Becker has fast bat speed with a short level bat path. He takes a gap-to-gap to opposite field approach. His exit velo 84 MPH.

Best of the Rest (Listed Alphabetically)

Jacob Davis (Windsor, 2017)
Davis is a 5-foot-11, 150-pound right hand hitting SS. He throws from a high 3/4 arm slot across the infield with mostly accurate throws. His position velo was 69 MPH. At the plate, he starts with a balanced setup and has a smooth load. Davis showed excellent balance through his swings with fast bat speed. His exit velo was clocked at 76 MPH.

Joshua Lopez (Rockhurst, 2017)
Lopez is a strong 5-foot-10, 200-pound right hand hitting infielder. He has above average feet and mostly accurate throws. His position velo was 68 MPH. At the plate, Lopez starts with a balanced setup and a smooth load. He takes a short stride and uses his lower half well. Josh's approach was advanced and has good line-drive, gap-to-gap power. His exit velo was 79 MPH.

Trey McDaniel (Greenville, 2017)
McDaniel is an athletic 5-foot-11 175-pound right hand hitting infielder. He throws with a ¾ arm slot and made mostly accurate throws. McDaniel has mostly a pull approach with some pop. He has a balanced stance, short stride, and produces good bat speed. His exit velo was 83 MPH.

Mason Mitchell (Marquette, 2017) Mitchell is a 5-foot-11, 170-pound 1B with a good approach to hitting. He has an open setup with excellent balance. Mason has fluid rhythm through his swing with fast bat speed. He has an exit velo of 74 MPH. He has average feet and good hands at first base.

Noah Newman (Raymore Peculiar, 2017)
Newman is a hard nosed 5'10, 150-pound right hand hitting SS/OF. He showed nice athleticism with quick feet and fluid motions. Noah has an over the top delivery with long arm action. Offensively, he displayed a balanced setup and swing. Newman has good balance through his swing. There is some gap-to-gap power potential with a 76 MPH exit velo.

Douglas Payne (Cuba, 2017)
Payne is a 5-foot-8, 140-pound right handed hitting 2B/MIF. He has a long, loose arm with a 3/4 delivery with mostly accurate throws. He posted a top position velo of 71 mph. At the plate, Payne has an open tall setup with a level swing. He has an advance approach with fluid rhythm. His exit velo was 77mph.

Austin Polina (Lee’s Summit, 2017)
Polina is a 5-foot-6, 150-pound right hand hitting infielder. He moves well and had mostly accurate throws. He had a position velo of 69 MPH. At the plate, Polina starts with a balanced setup and has a smooth load. He takes a short stride and uses hi lower half well. His bat path is level through his swing and is a line drive hitter. Polina's exit velo was 79 MPH.
