Kansas Underclass: Outfielder's Analysis

Prep Baseball Report Kansas held the Kansas Underclass Invitational Showcase on January 28 at Hoover Field in Wichita.  Nearly 30 players in the 2019 and 2020 classes from around the region attended. 

Player's profiles have been updated with profile pictures, videos and stats from the event. In the coming days, we will break down the event position-by-postion, taking a look at outfielders today.  Although some outfielders participated in other positions, this is just a break down of the outfielders performance.  Players are listed in alphabetical order.

Coaches will have new profiles to add their dashboard on ScoutPlus and players will be able to update information on their profile with ProspectPlus.

Outfielders

Mason Auer, OF, Kickapoo (MO), 2019
Auer is a 6-foot 170-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  A Missouri State commit, Auer ran a 4.09 home to first and a 7.01 laser timed 60.  He has an 88 mph exit velo and is aggressive and athletic on the mound, at the plate and in the outfield. At the plate, starts with open stance, leg kick, in line stride, quick bat speed, level path, hard solid contact gap-to-gap during hitting evaluations.  In the outfield, 90 mph positional velo, one of the top velos of the event, attacks the ball and plays through the catch with momentum, strong, over the top reelase, mostl accurate throws. 

Cam Cox, OF, Hesston, 2019
Cox is a 5-foot-10 160-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 6.95 60 and a 4.06 home to first.  He has a 91 mph exit velo and is a quick twitch athlete with an athletic build.  At the plate, 92 mph exit velo, balanced set up, short stride with rhythm in hands, some hand load, mostly pull side contact during hitting evaluations. In the outfield, loose and quick over the top arm action, quick catch and throw, momentum through the catch, works behind the ball. 

Tyler Farmer, OF, Derby, 2019
Farmer is a 5-foot-9 140-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 7.40 laser timed 60 and a 4.96 home to first.  He has an exit velo of 77 mph and has a slender frame. At the plate, starts loaded in back leg, some hand load with rhythm, slightly closed off stride, loose hands, swing produced middle to opposite field line drives during batting practice.  In the outfield, quick catch and throw, accurate thrower, works behind the ball and through the catch, short arm circle with over the top release, 71 mph positional velo.

Andres Fonseca, OF, St. Thomas Aquinas, 2020
Fonseca is a 5-foot-6 170-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 8.49 60 and a 4.97 home to first.  He posted an 82 mph exit velo and has a strong, durable frame. At the plate, open stance, controlled leg kick, level bat path through the zone, pull side contact during batting practice, flashed power.  In the outfield, 69 mph positional velo, keeps momentum through the catch, crow hop, over the top release, fluid transfer. 

Ben Gallagher, OF, Manhattan, 2019
Gallagher is a 5-foot-9 170-pound left handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 7.33 laser timed 60 and a 4.64 home to first.  He has an 84 mph exit velo. At the plate, thin and open stance, short stride, quick and aggressive hands, pull side contact, flashed some strength in swing.  In the outfield, 73 mph positional velo, quick to the ball, crow hop, high three quarters release, arm works, throws with back spin carry. 

Gage Oller, OF, Kingman, 2020
Oller is a 5-foot-7 140-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 7.26 laser timed 60 and a 4.78 home to first.  He has an exit velo of 81 mph with a projectable tall and lean frame.  At the plate, simple swing mechanics, balanced set up, short stride with no wasted movement, free hands, level path, gap-to-gap approach.  In the outfield, high three quarters, 78 mph positional velo, throws have backspin carry, momentum after the catch, clean exchange, works behind the ball. 

Trey Riggs, OF, Hays, 2019
Riggs is a 6-foot 175-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a laser timed 7.50 60 and a 4.53 home to first.  He has an 86 mph exit velo. At the plate, tall and open stance, short inline stride, minimal load in hands, repeats swing, feel for the barrel, showed power to pull side and middle of the field, solid consistent contact during hitting evaluations.  In the outfield, 75 mph positional velo, over the top release, momentum after the catch, works behind ball, fluid transfer and throw, arm works, throws downhill, mostly accurate.

Andrew Rogers, OF, Wamego, 2019
Rogers is a 5-foot-11 175-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 7.71 laser timed 60 and a 4.78 home to first.  He has an 80 mph exit velo. At the plate, gap-to-gap approach, mostly works oppo gap, thin and open stance, long stride, level bat path.  In the outfield, high three quarters release, 65 mph positional velo, fluid transfer, small crow hop for momentum, mostly accurate thorws. 

Jackson Syring, Derby, 2019
Syring is a 5-foot-11 175-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2019 class. He ran a 6.90 laser time 60 ad a 4.45 home to first.  He has an 88 mph exit velo with a physical build. At the plate, aggressive and violent swing, wide set up with short stride, hits with leverage, power potential, middle of the field approach, quick bat speed, no wasted movement in load. In the outfield, 76 mph positional velo, lefty thrower, athletic actions to the ball, clean transfer, momentum after catch, loose arm action, high three quarters release, mostly accurate throws.

Dillon Turner, OF, Strafford (MO), 2019
Turner is a 6-foot 164-pound right handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.28 laser timed 60 and a 4.39 home to first.  He has an 85 mph exit velo and a strong, physical build.  At the plate, wide and strong stance, slight smooth load in back side with some hand load, aggressive and quick bat speed through the zone, showed power to the pull side, swing produced hard contact to the middle and pull side of the cage during hitting evaluations.  In the outfield, 81 mph positional velo, over the top release, moves to ball with a purpose, fluid transfer, arm works, mostly accurate throw, most with backspin carry.
