MO-KAN Underclass Invitational: Outfield Analysis

On January 18, Prep Baseball Report Kansas/Missouri hosted the MO-KAN Underclass Invitational at Mac N Seitz Baseball Academy. Nearly 70 players in the 2018 and 2019 attended.

In the days to come, we will break down each position, taking a look at the outfielder's performances today.  Player profiles have been updated with video and stats from the event.  Click on each player to see their profile.

Missouri

Gibson Brown, OF, Liberty (MO), 2018
Brown is a 6-foot-1 155-pound right-handed hitting outfielder.  He ran an event best 3.91 home-to-first, top for the event, and had an 80 mph exit velo. At the plate, open stance, no wasted movement in load, short path to the ball, solid consistent contact to middle of cage, loose hands with level path.  In the outfield, 77 mph positional velo, takes route behind the ball, plays through the catch, crow hop, over the top release, clean arm action, accurate throws

Chris Castrop, OF, Rockhurst (MO), 2018
Castrop is a 6-foot 165-pound right handed hitting outfielder from Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 4.25 home-to-first, one of the top for the event, and had an exit velo of 81 mph.  Offensively, small and smooth load, short stride, aggressive swing, swing is connected, solid contact to middle of cage during batting practice. In the outfield, 73 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, quick exchange and release, moves to ball with a purpose, takes route to create momentum towards target.

John Forrest, OF, Rockhurst (MO), 2019
Forrest is a 5-foot-8 160-pound left-handed hitting outfielder from Missouri’s 2019 class.  He has an exit velo of 72 mph and runs a 4.51 home-to-first. Forrest has a gap-to-gap approach offensively, minimal load, smooth rhythm with body control, level through the zone.  In the outfield, 71 mph positional velo, made all plays cleanly, mostly accurate throws, three quarters arm slot, clean exchange.

Daniel Jaeger, OF, Lee’s Summit North (MO), 2018
Jaeger is a 5-foot-9 140-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He has an exit velo of 77 mph and runs a 4.53 home-to-first. At the plate, show ability to repeat swing, solid consistent contact to middle of cage, minimal hand movement in load, in line stride.  In the outfield, 71 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, quick exchange and release, attacks ball working behind to catch, mostly accurate throws.

Mark Lachowitzer, OF, St. Pius (MO), 2018
Lachowitzer is a is a 5-foot 175-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 4.50 home-to-first and has an 86 mph exit velo. At the plate, thin and tall set up, open stance, quick hands, showed feel for the barrel, squared up balls consistently gap-to-gap, level path to extension.  In the outfield, 80 mph positional velo, one of the top outfield velos for the event, feet are quick, takes good route to ball, working behind, plays through catch, over the top release, aggressive, accurate throws.

Brice Pannier, OF, Smith Cotton (MO), 2018
Pannier is a 5-foot-11 185-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 4.34 home-to-first and had one of the top LHH exit velos on the day at 89 mph, top among LHH for the event. At the plate, balanced set up, loads in lower half, loose hands, level through zone, solid consistent contact to middle/pull side of cage, swings with intent to hit ball hard. In the outfield, 77 mph positional velo, crow hop, gains momentum, accurate throws, athletic actions, clean exchanges and release.

Max Pitts, OF, Park Hill (MO), 2019
Pitts is a 6-foot 155-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He got down the line in 4.63-seconds and had an exit velo of 67 mph. At the plate, open stance, uses reverse toe tap for timing, middle approach, smooth rhythm.  In the outfield, 71 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, make all plays cleanly, mostly accurate throws.

Jacob Poletis, OF, Rockhurst (MO), 2019
Poletis is a 5-foot-11 153-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 4.77 home-to-first and has an exit velo of 78 mph. At the plate, starts in balanced position, tall set up, long stride, level path, body stays under control, gap-to-gap approach, loose hands.  In the outfield, 71 mph positional velo, three quarters release, fluid footwork and clean exchange, accurate throws, projectable build.

Zachary Van Dorn, OF, Blue Springs (MO), 2018
Van Dorn is a 5-foot-10 185-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class. He ran a 4.52 home-to-first and has an exit velo of 85 mph. At the plate, starts in balanced stance, wide base, small stride, no wasted movement, gap-to-gap approach, smooth rhythm, level path through extension.  In the outfield, 72 mph positional velo, over the top release, clean exchange and release, fluid footwork.



Nebraska

Cole Evans, OF, Grand Island (NE), 2019
Evans is an athletic 6-foot 170-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Nebraska’s 2019 class.  He got down the line in 4.47-seconds and has an exit velo of 79 mph.  Evans has an aggressive swing, no wasted movement in load, starts in balanced position at the plate, short stride, quick hands, swing produced line drives to the middle/pull side of cage.  In the outfield, 80 mph positional velo, one of the top outfield velos for the event, over the top release, arm works, momentum through the ball and towards target, clean footwork.

Kansas

Nick Allen, OF, Blue Valley Southwest (KS), 2018
Allen is a switch-hitting outfielder standing 6-foot 195 pounds.  He runs a 4.20 home-to-first and has an exit velo of 87 mph, both one of the top for the event.  At the plate, switch hitter, similar mechanics from both sides, athletic stance, separates hands from stride, short in-line stride, more gap-to-gap from right side, strong/loose hands, level path.  In the outfield, 77 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, quick feet, clean exchange, plays through the catch, mostly accurate throws.

Nicholas Chomyak, OF, Shawnee Mission Northwest (KS), 2018
Chomyak is a 5-foot-9 155-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2018 class. He gets down the line in 4.27-seconds and has an exit velocity of 83 mph. Chomyak has a simple and repeatable swing, open stance, short stride, some swings had higher leg kick, consistently squared up balls during batting practice to middle of cage, level path to extension.  In the outfield, posted one of the top outfield velos at 80 mph, one of the top velos for the event, short over-the-top arm slot, clean hand-to-glove exchange, accurate throws.

Elijah Dickerson, OF, Blue Valley Southwest (KS), 2019
Dickerson is a 6-foot 160-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 4.70 home-to-first and has an exit velo of 81 mph. At the plate, starts in-line with feet, athletic stance, in-line stride, gap-to-gap approach, level through the zone.  In the outfield, over the top release, plays through the ball, clean catch and release, moves well, positional velo at 67 mph.

Hunter Flanigan, OF, Andover Central (KS), 2018
Flanigan is a 5-foot-10 150-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He has an exit velo of 79 mph and runs a 4.58 home-to-first.  At the plate, tall and slightly open stance, short stride, loose hands, pull side line drives, smooth rhythm, body stays under control.  In the outfield, 78 mph positional velo, over the top release, clean arm action, aggressive to the ball, quick catch and release, mostly accurate throws.

Blake Herbel, OF, Shawnee Mission East (KS), 2018
Herbel is a 5-foot-10 183-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2018 class.  Herbel runs a 4.50 home-to-first and has an exit velo of 83 mph. At the plate, loads in back leg with to tap, in-line stride, gap-to-gap approach, short to contact, quick hands.  In the outfield, high three quarters release, quick exchange and release, feet work with hands, plays through ball, 81 mph positional velo, one of the top for the event.

Brody Kooser, OF, Derby (KS), 2018
Kooser is a 5-foot-10 160-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 4.34 home-to-first and has an exit velo of 76 mph.  At the plate, starts in balanced position, loads hands, short stride, strong hands, short to contact.  In the outfield, 75 mph positional velo, three quarters release, fluid exchange with footwork, plays through the ball.

Corbin Lill, OF, Clearwater (KS), 2018
Lill is a 6-foot 160-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 4.31 home-to-first and had a 79 mph exit velo.  At the plate, open stance, in-line stride, minimal hand movement in load, loose quick hands, level though the zone, body stays under control.  In the outfield, 77 mph positional velo, athletic actions, over the top release, aggressive crow hop, creates momentum, quick exchange and release, accurate throws. 

Casey Mayes, OF, Andover (KS), 2018
Mayes is a 6-foot 185-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas 2018 class.  He has an exit velo of 81 mph and runs a 4.21 home-to-first. Simple and smooth swing, separates hands with short stride, level bat path to extension, middle to pull approach, loose hands.  In the outfield, 77 mph positional velo, over the top release, fluid footwork, arm works, plays through the ball, mostly accurate throws.

Bryce Mitchell, OF, Blue Valley Northwest (KS), 2018
Mitchell is a 6-foot-1 180-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He had an exit velo of 88 mph and ran a 4.47 home-to-first.  At the plate, starts in wide/athletic stance, no stride, loads in back leg, quick hands, short to contact, level though zone, gap-to-gap approach, solid consistent contact. In the outfield, high three quarters release, soft hands, quick catch and throw, accurate throws, momentum through the catch, 80 mph positional velo, one of the best for the event.

Joshua Mitchell, OF, Shawnee Mission Northwest (KS), 2018
Mitchell is a 6-foot 160-pound right-handed outfielder in Kansas 2018 class.  He ran a 4.14 home-to-first, one of the best for the event, and has an exit velo of 82 mph. Mitchell has a simple and repeatable swing, consistent line drives to middle/pull side of cage, short stride, level path, hits with leverage in back leg.  In the outfield, athletic and aggressive, plays though the ball, quick over the top arm action, plays through the ball with momentum towards target, accurate throws, one of the top velos of the day from the outfield at 85 mph.

David Robinson, Blue Valley Northwest (KS), 2018
Robinson is a 5-foot-10 170-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 4.07 home-to-first and has an exit velo of 82 mph. At the plate, has a balanced set up, controlled leg lift to start swing, smooth rhythm, gap-to-gap approach, simple and repeatable mechanics, level path.  In the outfield, throws the ball on a line to target, 81 mph, one of the top for the event, athletic and aggressive, plays through catch, over the top release, creates momentum behind the ball. 

Ian Russell, OF, Rock Creek, (KS), 2019
Russell is a lean 6-foot-3 170-poumd right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas 2019 class.  He has an exit velo of 72 mph. At the plate, minimal load, tall set up, short stride, quick hands through the zone, short to contact.  In the outfield, over the top release, 72 mph positional velo, clean exchange and release, loose arm action.

Grant Wilson, Blue Valley Southwest (KS), 2018
Wilson is a 6-foot-3 175-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He had an 86 mph exit velo and got down the line in 4.78 seconds.  At the plate, starts in a balanced set up, reverse to tap for timing, in line stride, level path though the zone.  In the outfield, posted event best 86 mph positional velo, over the top release, moves to the ball with a purpose, creates momentum though the catch, high three quarters release, loose arm, arm works, mostly accurate throws.
