MO Preseason All-State Player Analysis: Left Handed Pitchers

The MO Preseason All-State event was held on February 6th at the Sports Barn in Wentzville, MO. The 90+ player invite only event featured many of the top 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024's from across the state of Missouri. Today we are taking an in depth look at the left handed pitchers from the event.

 

Jericho Badwan LHP /  Fort Zumwalt West , MO / 2021

Body: 5-foot-10, 175-pound lean and athletic frame.

Delivery: Very active and up tempo delivery.  Tons of rhythm as the body stays in motion the entire time through the set position to release.  Strides down the center of the mound with good momentum.  Drops deep into the back leg and gets good lower half drive.  Sets hands low around the belt.  Hands work in good rhythm with the lower half.

Arm Action: High ¾ arm slot with clean arm action and good hand speed.

FB: 81-84 mph, gets good amount of arm side run and works mostly to the glove side.

CB: 71-72 mph, 12/6 shape with good downward action and tight spin.

CH: 72-73 mph, mostly straight action with downward fade and good hand speed.

Kenton Deverman LHP / OF / Fort Zumwalt West, MO / 2023

Body: 6-foot, 160-pound long and lean frame with room for added strength and size.

Delivery: Smooth uptempo delivery.  Works out of the middle of the rubber.  High balance point and falls down the mound with good direction towards the plate.  Hands are set high on the chest and work well with the lower half rhythm.  Gets good extension at release point.

Arm Action: ¾ arm slot with clean arm action.

FB: 79-82 mph, good arm side run and solid command.

CB: 67-68 mph, 1/7 shape with good downward action and lands it low in the strike zone.

CH: 70-72 mph, straight downward action with good hand speed and sell.

Jack DuMont LHP / 1B / St. Louis University , MO / 2022

Body: 6-foot-3, 200-pound well-built and projectable frame.

Delivery: On the mound shows quick tempoed rocker style delivery.  Gets to mid height balance point with drop and drive style down the mound.  Strides down the middle of the mound with momentum carrying him towards the third base side.  Gets good drive off the back leg to maximize power.  Overall athletic delivery with good balance and body control.

Arm Action: ¾ arm slot with clean/short arm action and good hand speed.

FB: 84-86 mph, good arm side run and extension at release.

CB: 72-73 mph, short 2/7 shape with feel for spin and good command. 

CH: 81-83 mph, good downward shape with good hand speed and sell.

Nolan Folks LHP / OF / Holt , MO / 2023

Body: 5-foot-10, 154-pound lean and developing frame with room for added strength and size.

Delivery: On the mound shows a simple up tempoed delivery.  Pre turns body in the windup and gets to a high balance point with weight over back leg.  Strides directly down the middle of the mound with good momentum and drive off the backside.  Repeats the delivery well.  Athletic posture throughout the delivery and finishes with good balance.  

Arm Action: Over the top arm slot with clean arm action and good hand speed.

FB: 76-81 mph, gets a lot of life at the top of the zone with some arm side run.  Good extension and release height for size.

CB: 66-69 mph, short breaking 1/7 shape and a developing feel for spin.

CH: 73-74 mph, very good action working down and to the glove side.  Good hand speed and command. 

Landen Graves LHP / OF / Francis Howell, MO / 2023

Body: 5-foot-10, 150-pound lean frame with room for added strength and size.

Delivery: Rocker style delivery with smooth rhythm and tempo.  Gets lots of horizontal weight shifting and leans forward at mid height balance point.  Hands work up and down with lower half rhythm.  Low glove front side and slight tilt in the shoulders.  Lands closed down the mound towards the first base side and rotates off the plant foot.

Arm Action: High ¾ arm slot with short arm action and long release.

FB: 76-79 mph, high release point with life at the top of the zone and some slight arm side run.

CB: 64-65 mph, 12/6 shape with good downward action and good spin. 

CH: 70-71 mph, mostly flat shape with some arm side fade.

Adam Hachman LHP / Timberland, MO / 2023

Body: 6-foot-4, 190-pound long-limbed and very projectable frame.

Delivery: On the mound shows slow and methodical rhythm and tempo.  Upright posture at high balance point and gets good load into backside and drive off the back leg.  Hands are quiet throughout the delivery and hand break is high on the chest.  Strides slightly closed down the mound towards the first base side creating interesting angles into right handed hitters and away from left handed hitters.  Uses long levers for good leverage and maximizing power potential.  Very projectable arm and intriguing prospect as he continues to add strength and experience.

Arm Action: High ¾ arm slot with short arm action on back end and long release.

FB: 88-91 mph, good extension with high spin rate.  Ball jumps out of the hand with ease.

CB: 75-76 mph, short 1/7 shape with good command and tight spin. 

CH: 85-86 mph, good hand speed and slight arm side fade.

Lane Harris LHP / Francis Howell Central , MO / 2023

Body: 6-foot-1, 170-pound lean and projectable frame with room for added strength and size.

Delivery: On the mound shows quick tempo rocker style delivery.  Hands move up and down with lower half efficiently.  Tall and fall style down the mound with landing down the middle towards the plate.  Short stride and rotates hard off of plant foot.  Slight glove tap rhythm with hand break.  

Arm Action: High ¾ arm slot with shorter arm action on back side and hand working across the body at release.  Good hand speed.

FB: 85-87 mph, mostly straight action with some slight arm side run at times.  Gets good downward tilt and high spin rate. 

CB: 69-71 mph, 12/6 shape with very good downard breaking action at times.  Elite spin with spin rate reaching near 2900.

CH: 76-80 mph, good fading action down and to the arm side with good hand speed and sell.

Wil Libbert LHP / 1B / Blair Oaks , MO / 2023

Body: 6-foot-1, 185-pound athletic and projectable frame with room for more strength and size.

Delivery: On the mound shows an up tempo pace and methodical rhythm.  Tall and fall style delivery down the mound.  Works to a good balance point with hands breaking just after leg drive and out and away from the body.  Works out of the middle of the rubber and strides directly down the center of the mound with good momentum towards the plate.  Athletic and well balanced finish.  Works a high glove side and slight shoulder tilt to help create downward tilt.

Arm Action: Over the top arm slot with clean and loose arm action with good hand speed.

FB: 83-89 mph, slight arm side run with good life and riding action.  Gets good tilt action down in the zone. 

CB: 68-70 mph, slurvy shape with good spin metrics.  More of a slider shape with east/west movement. 

CH: 72-73 mph, heavy arm side fade with arm slowing down off the fastball hand speed.

Camron Poe LHP / Christian Brothers College, MO / 2023

Body: 6-foot-3, 200-pound large and projectable frame.

Delivery: On the mound shows smooth and uptempo rhythm.  Works hands cleanly above the head and down to mid chest.  Gets to a mid height balance point with drop and drive style motion.  Gets good push off the back leg.  Works from the third base side of the rubber and strides closed towards the first base side creating tough angles for the hitter.  Rotates hard off the plant foot.  Ball explodes out of his hand with easy effort.  Maintains athleticism all the way throughout the delivery.  Very projectable arm and a definite prospect to follow over the next couple of years.

Arm Action: LH.  High ¾ arm slot with short arm action on the backside and explosive hand speed through recoil release.

FB: 88-90 mph, Good tilting action with arm side run on the two seam fastball.  Easy velocity with room for more in the future.

CB: 67-70 mph, 2/8 shape with feel for spin and flashes some downward depth at times.

CH: 73-77 mph, heavy arm side fade with fastball arm speed.

Carter Smith LHP / OF / Fort Zumwalt West, MO / 2022

Body: 5-foot-10, 160-pound lean and developing frame with room for added strength and size.

Delivery: Rocker style delivery with slow tempo up to balance point.  Tall and fall style motion with slight drive off the back side.  Turns hips and shoulders inward on high balance point.  Works out of the middle of the rubber and strides directionally down the center of the mound.  Finishes with good balance and athletic posture. 

Arm Action: High ¾ arm slot with short arm action and recoil release.

FB: 76-78 mph, straight shape with good tilting action.

CB: 61 mph, big 1/7 shape and flashes some heavy downward depth.

CH: 64 mph, slight cutting action with downward depth.
