The top underclass prospect is freshman Friday night starter Kenton Deverman, a 6-foot-2 left-hander who rides his fastball into the upper-80s. He stifled the Bears’ bats for a complete game 4-1 Evansville W on Friday night. Deverman allowed just four hits and two walks with six strikeouts.

Kenton Deverman, Fort Zumwalt West (MO), 2023 Evansville Commit
Positional Profile: LHP
Body: 6-1, 170-pounds. Lean and athletic build with room for added strength and size in the future.
Hit: LHH. Starts with a neutral stance and upright posture with hands getting set at shoulder height. Slow rocking load into the lower half with minimal movements in the body.  Slight arm bar posture with the lead arm working straight back.  Simple stride to a wider base.  Lower half works rotationally through the zone into a firm front leg.  Rotational path with the hands and a strong top hand finish.  Stays behind the ball well at contact.  Hands work quickly through the zone and shows good overall balance.
Power: 86.9 max exit velocity, averaged 78.9 mph. 263’ max distance.
Arm: LH.   OF - 87 mph. High 3/4 arm slot with a loose and whippy arm action.
Defense: Attacks the ball with shorter strides and controlled rhythm.  Fields the ball on top of the glove side leg with developing glove action and a sure glove.  Utilizes a quick shuffle crow hop technique with good direction and momentum headed towards the target.
Run: 7.21 runner in the 60.

Delivery: Short footwork around the rubber with pivot foot sliding back into place.  Works to a mid height balance point with slightly crouched posture and a slight stall out at the top of the delivery.  Hand breaks from the glove later as the stride foot works forward.  Works from the middle of the rubber and strides slightly closed to the first base side.  Short sink into the lower half with a short push off the rubber.  Lands into a slightly bent plant leg.
Arm Action: LH. 3/4 arm slot with a shorter arm action.
FB: T83.9, 83.0-83.8 mph. Slight cutting action at times with consistent velocity throughout the bullpen. T2225, 2117 average rpm.
