MOKAN Fall Underclass Games: Catcher Analysis

The PBR MOKAN Fall Underclass Games took place on Sunday, October 4th at Creekside Baseball Complex. The event featured over 30 prospects from the 2023 and 2024 classes. 

In the days following the event, we released the top statistical performers from the event. Today, we begin to roll out reports on every player from the event by taking a look at the catchers. 

SCOUTING REPORTS

Jackson Helberg C / OF / Kearney, MO / 2024

Athletic 5-foot-10, 168-pound catcher with developing strength. The right-handed hitter sets up in a wide, balanced stance with some bat tilt. Small leg kick and short stride into a level swing path through the zone. Consistent hard line-drives to the middle of the field with some power to the gaps. 77 mph bat-exit velocity. Ran a 7.53 60-yard dash. Behind the plate, shows ability to block with some flexibility. Quick feet with developing exchanges and arm, making 63 mph throw downs from an over-the-top arm slot with some push in release, yielding pop times between 2.28-2.43 seconds.


Tyler Lang C / 3B / Parkway West, MO / 2023

Stocky 5-foot-7, 170-pound catcher with a strong lower half. The right-handed hitter starts in a narrow, open stance with quiet actions. Long stride, landing closed into a level line-drive swing path. Feel for the barrel with the ability to drive the ball to all fields. 85 mph bat-exit velocity. Ran a 7.94 60-yard dash. Behind the plate, good receiver with limited body sway. Quick footwork and exchanges, making 73 mph throws down to 2B from a high-¾ arm action with accuracy, yielding pop times between 2.00-2.08 seconds.


Tyler Leonard C / OF / Staley, MO / 2023

Solid, physical 5-foot-10, 180-pound catcher with present athleticism. The right-handed hitter sets up in a narrow, open stance with rhythm in his hands. Slow, controlled load into a big stride and uphill swing plane through the zone. Gap-to-gap approach with bat speed, making loud contact to his mid/pull side looking to elevate the ball. 85 mph bat-exit velocity. Ran a 7.32 60-yard dash. Behind the plate, solid blocker with soft hands to receive. Quick footwork with developing exchanges. Made 70 mph throws to second from a high-¾ arm action, yielding pop times between 2.05-2.28 seconds.


Connor Mendell C / 2B / Fort Zumwalt South, MO / 2024

 Lean 5-foot-10, 142-pound catcher with room to add size and strength. The right-handed hitter starts in a wide stance with his weight slightly on his backside and active hands. Leg kick and short stride into a level swing plane through the zone. Solid line-drive contact to all fields, registering a 77 mph bat-exit velocity. Ran a 7.40 60-yard dash. Behind the plate, quiet receiver with ability to block laterally. Quick transfers and footwork with good momentum on throwdowns. Made accurate 72 mph throws to second, yielding pop times between 2.09-2.20 seconds. In the infield, active footwork with sure hands to field. Made 75 mph throws across the diamond from a short high-¾ arm action.
