Missouri Baseball Starts with Jamboree

Last weekend, Missouri baseball teams did something they have never done before.  They took part in a Jamboree, which consisted of three or four teams meeting in one location to play three inning scrimmage games.  PBR was in Liberty, Missouri to see an early glimpse of eight teams from around the Kansas City area.  Liberty High School hosted Winnetonka, Platte County, and Blue Springs South.  Across town, Liberty North hosted Ray-Pec, Oak Park and Staley. Lee's Summit West also got in on the action hosting Pembroke Hill and Truman.

Coaches enjoyed the format.  The teams played each other for three innings and could control the situation for the teams.  At the Liberty Jamboree, runners started the inning at first base and coaches could control the situation to get the work in their respective teams.  At the end of three full innings, a team would be paired against another team at the Jamboree.

Blue Springs South head Coach Ben Baier, who his team ranked #1 in the MHSBCA poll, was ready to get outside and start the season.  "I am really happy to see the state allowing us to do something like this.  It is good to see how the guys will in different situations and it is just a great way to get work in for out guys," he said.

The Jamborees gave us a chance to see early action from the teams and players.  Gave us a chance to see a marquee match-up between two high profile area players.  Blue Springs South's Reece Eddins squared off against Winnetonka's Marquise Doherty, with Doherty working a six-pitch walk. Eddins sat at 86-88 and did hit 92 MPH on one pitch.  Alex Lange started hot at well, sitting 93-94 with 5 K's in his preseason outting.

The bats were ready to go this weekend too. Liberty's Jacob Francis, a University of North Dakota football commit, and Northeastern Oklahoma commit, Andrew Tritsch from Blue Springs South showed off their swing with towering home runs at Liberty High.  Evan Wilson from Oak Park smashed a two-run double in scrimmage against Liberty North. And Ryan Hinkley from Liberty North hit an RBI  triple to center field against Oak Park.

Games across the state get under way this Saturday.  Spring is officially here.
