Missouri Underclass Games: Outfielder Analysis

Prep Baseball Report-Missouri held the Underclass Prospect Games on June 14 at the University of Missouri.  Nearly 100 players participated in the 2018 and 2019 class. 

Player profiles have been updated with video, times, velos and profile pictures.  Today we will take a look at the outfield performances from the event.  Although some outfielders may have played other positions, this is just a break down of the outfielders performances from the day.  In the days to come we will break down, infielders and pitchers.

Outfielders

Dominic Canovi, OF, Marion, 2018
Canovi is a 6-foot-1 180-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.35 60 and a 4.47 home-to-first.  He has an 84 mph exit velo, one of the top LHH exit velos of the event. At the plate, balanced stance, minimal load, short stride, pull side contact during batting practice, with power, body under control during swing, doubled to right field in game action.  In the outfield, 81 mph positional velo, over the top release, works behind the ball and through catch, loose arm action, quick catch and throw.

Kirby Connell, OF, Butler, 2019
Connell is a 6-foot 175-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 8.09 60 and a 4.85 home-to-first.  He has an 83 mph exit velo. At the plate, smooth load, slightly open, controlled leg kick, level path, middle of the field approach.  In the outfield, 77 mph positional velo, throws left, high three quarters release, fluid transfer, clean exchange, mostly accurate throws.

Grant Geren OF, Blue Springs South, 2019
Green is a 5-foot-9 150-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.25 60 and and 4.38 home-to-first.  He has a 75 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced set up, no wasted movement in load, middle of the field line drives during batting practice, repeats swing.  In the outfield, 72 mph positional velo, over the top arm slot, clean transfer, works behind ball, mostly accurate throws.

Brett Gonzalez, OF, Rolla, 2018
Gonzalez is a 5-foot-11 203-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 6.81 60, one of the fastest of the event and a 4.76 home-to-first.  He has a 92 mph exit velo, one of the top exit velos among RHH for the event. At the plate, takes an aggressive swing, balanced set up, controlled leg lift, pull side power, singled to left field in game action.  In the outfield, attacks ball, crow hop, loose over the top arm action, momentum through the catch, mostly accurate throws, physical player, 90 mph positional velo, top velo among outfielders.

Jake Grauberger, OF, Lee’s Summit West, 2019
Grauberger is a 5-foot-9 170-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.07 60 and a 4.74 home-to-first.  He has an exit velo of 81 mph. At the plate, athletic stance, leg kick, level path through the zone, power to pull gap, mostly middle of the field line drives during batting practice. In the outfield, 85 mph positional velo, one of the top outfield velos for the event, high three quarters release, aggressive to the ball, athletic footwork, plays through the catch, quick transfer, mostly accurate throws.  Physical and athletic player in the 2019 class.

Allante Hall, OF, Blue Springs South, 2018
Hall is a 6-foot 170-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.49 60 and a 4.52 home-to-first.  He had an 87 mph exit velo, one of the top RHH velos for the event. At the plate, fast bat speed with power to middle of the field, smooth load, repeats with no wasted movement, consistent solid contact during batting practice, feel for barrel, barreled up the ball in two at-bats in game action, singled. In the outfield, 90 mph positional velo, athletic footwork, top velo among outfielders, moves with ease to the ball, plays through the catch, loose and quick over the top release, athletic actions. 

Zac Hardin, OF, Twin Rivers, 2018
Hardin is a 6-foot-1 165-pound left-haned hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.12 60 and a 4.31 home-to-first.  He has a 71 mph exit velo. At the plate, starts loaded in back leg, open stance, short inline stride, swing produced pull side line drives, singled to centerfield in game action.  In the outfield, 70 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, works behind the ball and through the catch, fluid footwork with clean exchange, mostly accurate throws. 

Miles Hudson, OF, McCluer North, 2018
Hudson is a 5-foot-9 159-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.12 60 and a 4.84 home-to-first.  He has a 72 mph exit velo. At the plate, open stance, minimal load, short stride, middle of the field contact during batting practice, singled to centerfield in game action.  In the outfield, 79 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, crow hop, plays through catch, mostly accurate throws.

Ben Kobel, OF, Lee’s Summit West, 2019
Kobel is a 5-foot-10 160-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.44 60 and a 4.94 home-to-first.  He has a 77 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced set up, minimal load, level path through the zone, some line drive contact to middle and pull side of the field.  In the outfield, high three quarters release, 75 mph positional velo, moves well to the ball, loose arm action, fluid actions with momentum through the catch, mostly accurate throws.

Joseph Kuchta, OF, Fort Zumwalt East, 2018
Kuchta is a 6-foot 159-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 6.94 60, one of the fastest of the event and 4.52 home-to-first.  He has a 72 mph exit velo. At the plate, open stance, controlled leg lift to inline stride, gap-to-gap approach, showed feel for the barrel.  In the outfield, over the top release, crow hop, takes route behind the ball and through the catch, clean transfers, fluid footwork, accurate throws, 75 mph positional velo.

Derek Mammen, OF, Blue Springs South, 2018
Mammen is a 6-foot 160-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 6.94 60, one of the top times of the event, and a 4.45 home-to-first, one of the top times among RHH.  He has an 80 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced stance, smooth rhythm, swing accelerates, gap-to-gap approach, level bat path, reached on an error in game action, solid contact in two at-bats.  In the outfield, 71 mph positional velo, over the top release, mostly accurate throws, works behind ball, clean exchange with fluid footwork.

Evan Martin, OF, Parkway South, 2018 
Martin is a 5-foot-11 150-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.19 60 and a 4.35 home-to-first.  He has a 78 mph exit velo. At the plate, swing produced line drives up the middle, solid consistent contact, athletic stance, minimal load with no wasted movement, loose hands with feel for the barrel, singled to centerfield and lined out to shortstop in game action.  In the outfield, 80 mph positional velo, high three-quarters arm slot, short and quick release, mostly accurate throws.

Blaise Matheny, OF, Westminster, 2019
Matheny is a 6-foot-2 180-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 209 class.  He ran a 7.20 60 and a 5.11 home-to-first.  He has an exit velo of 78 mph. At the plate, balanced set up, uses toe tap for timing, strong hands with quick bat speed, loose bat, generates whip and bat speed, power to pull side.  In the outfield, high three quarters release, loose arm action, quick feet with fluid exchange, plays through the ball, mostly accurate throws, 68 mph positional velo.

Jordan McClellan, OF, Liberty, 2018
McClellan is a 5-foot-11 165-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 6.94 60, one of the top times of the event and a 4.51 home-to-first.  He has a 79 mph exit velo. At the plate, slightly open, in line stride, aggressive swing, quick bat, pull side line drives during batting practice, singled to centerfield in game action.  In the outfield, quick to ball, quick catch and throw, over the top release, accurate throws, some with carry, 83 mph positional velo, one of the top outfield velos on the day.

Grant Paten, OF, Hickman, 2018
Paten is a 6-foot 180-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.07 60 and a 4.65 home-to-first.  He has an exit velo of 78 mph.  At the plate, has a middle of the field approach, short stride starting in balanced positon, level bat path, body stays under control, line drive hit to left in game action. In the outfield, quick to the ball, quick footwork, plays through the catch, high three quarters release, 81 mph positional velo, mostly accurate throws. 

James Perry, OF, Liberty North, 2018
Perry is a 6-foot-4 185-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He has an exit velo of 89 mph, one of the top RHH exit velos for the event.  He ran a 6.94 60, one of the best times at the event and a 4.69 home-to-first.  At the plate, wide stance with short stride, strong hands with fast bat speed, pull side power, hits with leverage, doubled to left-center in game action.  In the outfield, 90 mph positional velo, top velo among outfielders, explosive and quick, works behind the ball, loose over the top release point, plays through the catch, throws have carry, accurate. 

Jacob Poletis, OF, Rockhurst, 2019
Poletis is a 6-foot-1 165-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.47 60 and a 4.74 home-to-first.  He has a 77 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced stance, miminal load, in line stride, pull side line drives during batting practice.  In the outfield, smooth actions, crow hop, over the top release, fluid exchange, mostly accurate throws with some carry, 75 mph positional velo.

Garrett Presko, OF, Pembroke Hill, 2019
Presko is a 6-foot-2 185-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.18 60 and 4.58 home-to-first.  He has an 86 mph exit velo, one of the top RHH velos of the event. At the plate, simple and repeatable, consistent solid contact to the middle of the field during batting practice, level path, stays on ball, singled to left in game action.  In the outfield, high three quarters arm slot, fluid exchange and footwork, mostly accurate throws with carry, 85 mph positional velo, one of the top outfield velos on the day.

Dawson Roberts, OF, Glendale, 2018
Roberts is a 5-foot-9 150-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.27 60 and a 4.4 home-to-first.  He has an 83 mph exit velo. At the plate, athletic set up, smooth load, hands work inside ball, middle to opposite field line drives during batting practice, got an infield hit and lined to shortstop in game action. In the outfield, 72 mph positional velo, high three-quarters release, momentum through the catch, clean exchange and throw, mostly accurate throws. 

DJ Schmidt, OF, Fort Zumwalt North, 2018
Schmidt is a 6-foot 155-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.22 60 and a 4.52 home-to-first.  He has an 89 mph exit velo, top LHH exit velo of the event. At the plate, thin set up in base, minimal load, consistent line drives to middle of the field during batting practice, feel for the barrel.  In the outfield, 78 mph positional velo, aggressive to the ball with momentum through the catch, fluid exchange, high three-quarters arm slot.

Cole Schroeder, OF, CBC, 2019
Schroeder is a 6-foot-2 180-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class, Missouri State commit.  He ran a 7.41 60 and a 4.87 home-to-first.  He has an 83 mph exit velo. At the plate, slightly open stance, smooth and controlled load, accelerated and aggressive swing, level bat path, middle of the field contact during batting practice, singled to left field in game action.  In the outfield, short high-three quarters arm slot, moves well to the ball, plays through the catch, throws have carry, mostly accurate, 83 mph positional velo, one of the top outfield velos of the event.

Parker Sims, OF, Liberty North, 2018
Sims is a 6-foot-3 190-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.03 60 and a 4.59 home-to-first.  He has an 82 mph exit velo. At the plate, open stance, leg kick, flashes of pull side power, aggressive and quick swing, middle to pull approach, doubled to right-center in game action.  In the outfield, quick over the top release, arm works, aggressive through the ball, athletic actions, throws have carry, 83 mph positional velo, one of the top outfield velos of the event.

Marcus Smith, OF, Pembroke Hill, 2019
Smith is a 5-foot-9 165-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 6.91 60, one of the top times of the event and 4.08 home-to-first, one of the top LHH times down the line.  He has an 88 mph exit velo, one of the top LHH exit velos of the event. At the plate, balanced set up, smooth load to back side, flashes of pull side power, mostly middle to pull line drives, loose hands, feel for barrel, doubled to right-center in game action.  In the outfield, 77 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, quick transfer and throw, athletic, aggressive to the ball, accurate throws.

Mikey Strong, OF, St. Thomas Aquinas (KS), 2018
Strong is a 6-foot-2 174-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.74 60 and 4.85 home-to-first.  He has an 87 mph exit velo, one of the top RHH exit velos of the event. At the plate, balanced set up, smooth load, quick bat speed, accelerated swing, flashes of pull side power, mostly middle to pull line drives, consistent solid contact.  In the outfield, 84 mph positional velo, one of the top outfield velos on the day, short over the top arm action, arm works, fluid footwork, momentum through the catch, clean exchange, throws have carry and are mostly accuarate. 

Will Studer, OF, Hickman, 2018
Studer is a 5-foot-9 170-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 6.88 60, one of the fastest of the event and a 4.49 home-to-first.  He has an exit velo of 82 mph.  At the plate, athletic set up, smooth load, some hand load, gap-to-gap approach, repeats swing, consistent solid contact during batting practice.  In the outfield, 81 mph positional velo, quick over the top arm slot, loose arm action, crow hop, momentum behind the ball and through the catch, throws have carry and are accurate.

Jackson Swiney, OF, Parkway West, 2018
Swiney is a 6-foot-3 190-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.41 60 and a 4.31 home-to-first, one of the top among LHH.  He has an exit velo of 81 mph. At the plate, thin stance, lifts ball, flashes of pull side power, short in line stride, quick bat speed.  In the outfield, high three quarters arm slot, quick catch and throw, fluid footwork, mostly accurate throws. 

Carter Young, OF, Lee’s Summit West, 2019
Young is a 5-foot-10 175-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.14 60 and a 4.26 home-to-first, one of the tops among LHH.  He has an 82 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced set up, leg kick, smooth load, level path, pull side power, quick bat speed, aggressive swing, consistent solid contact during batting practice.  In the outfield, high three quarters arm slot, clean catch and throw, fluid footwork, moves well to the ball, throws had carry at times and were mostly accurate, physical player in the 2019 class.
