No. 19 Francis Howell gets by No. 24 Lindbergh



No. 18 Francis Howell got by No. 24 Lindbergh 7-3 Monday afternoon in a non-conference game at C&H Park behind a three RBI day from the No. 3 player in the Class of 2014, C Nick Perkins; who went three for four with a single, double and a homerun.

Francis Howell put up four runs in the third inning, when the first four batters reached base and scored before the first out was recorded. Calvin Munson led the inning off with a long line drive double to deep centerfield, and scored from second after Jake Helweg’s bunt and errant throw, advancing Helweg to second. Howell put runners on the corners after the next batter, Josh Gwaltney, reached on a fielder’s choice bunt advancing Helweg to third. An errant pickoff attempt by the Lindberg catcher of would allow Helweg to score and move Gwaltney to third.  Austin Schneider then singled up the middle, scoring Gwaltney and giving Howell a 4-0 lead.

Lindbergh picked up a run in the fifth after a leadoff walk to Patrick Schuff, who advanced to third on a double to left center by Zak Jones and come around to score on an RBI single by Matt Feldt, cutting the lead to 4-1.

Lindberg put two more across the board in the sixth with a two run home run to left off the bat of Kendall Helbert, cutting the lead to 4-3.

In the fifth, Howell responded with another run. Nic Perkins singled to lead the inning off, and pinch runner Johnny Koch advanced second after Kyle Kuetzel got hit by a pitch. Kyle Nelson then delivered an RBI single up the middle, scoring Koch and extending the Howell lead to 5-3.

Howell added a few insurance runs in the sixth inning, thanks to a long two run homerun to left center off the bat of Nic Perkins extending the lead to 7-3.

Dylan Slasman picked up the win on the mound, going five innings of five hit ball and giving up one earned run. Zac Perkins came in for the six out save striking out two in two innings of work.

Francis Howell improved their record to 14-6 while Lindberg fell to 12-5
