Player Spotlight: C Mitchell Morris (Fox, 2015)

Mitchell Morris (Fox, 2015) is a 5-foot-11 Morris is an athletic 5-foot-11, 175-pound right handed hitting catcher. At the Class of 2015 Prospect Games on Aug. 17, he ran a home-to-first time of 4.53. His position velo was 82 MPH from catcher with accurate throws and a POP in the range of 1.95-2.10. At the plate, Morris has a balanced setup with a smooth load. He keeps his hands inside the ball and maintains a level bat path. Mitchell produces gap-to-gap line drives and has pop from both sides and had an exit velo of 77 MPH. He tripled to left center in game action.

Morris batted .262 with an on-base percentage of .385.  In 65 at-bats, Morris drove in 15 runs with three doubles and scored 14 runs.  He earned 2nd Team All Suburban West Conference honors and is currently drawing attention from colleges.  Here is a look into what Morris has going on. 

PBR: What schools have expressed interest in you?

Morris: I have had several OVC, MIAA and GLVC schools expressing interest.

PBR: Have you taken any visits, or have any visits scheduled in the near future? If so, what schools, and how recently?

Morris: I have visited Northwest Missouri State. Future school are SEMO, Murray State, Central Missouri, Truman, William Jewell, Rockhurst, Southern Indiana, Northeastern Oklahoma, Grand Valley State and Drury.

PBR: Are you looking for anything in particular in a school? (Example: high academics, certain academic program, local, etc.)

Morris: My major is Political Science with a Minor in Criminal Justice. Key factors are academics, competitive conference and location.

PBR: How did you do your junior year? What were your high school statistics? And how did your team do?

Morris: I was named Second Team Suburban West Conference Catcher. My Junior year was exciting being part of a very competitive conference. I will need to get my stats from my high school coach. Fox finished the year in the middle of the pack of the Suburban West, but lost first round of districts.

PBR: What are you goals for your senior season? Name some players that will play a key role at Fox next spring.

Morris: My personal goals are to improve upon last year, focus on improving footwork to gain additional POP time, improve bat speed and arm strength. This year I will be the Team Captain, so I am planning to work on my leadership skills as well. Returning players Griffin Turnbaugh, Travis Turnbaugh, John Adams, Austin Berryhill all Seniors.

PBR: What travel team do you play for? Are you playing fall ball with a team?

Morris: St. Louis Sting and picking up games when available due to Friday Night Football Games.

PBR: Do you play any other sports?

Morris: Football - SS, LB, WR, RB, QB and special teams kick returner.

PBR: What are your ACT and GPA?


Morris: I am waiting for my ACT score as I just took it on 9/13/2014. My Accumulative GPS is 3.4 out of a 4.0
