Player Spotlight: C Nick Hagedorn (Smith Cotton, 2017)

Nick Hagedorn (Smith Cotton, 2017) is a left-handed hitting catcher.  He has a strong build and stands 5-foot-10 185-pounds.  This spring he led the Tigers to a top-ten ranking in Class 5 with a 27-7 record. 

Hagedorn had one of the top left-handed exit velos at the Class of 2017 Games at 91 mph, and posted one of the top catcher pop times at the event at 1.97.  He has been clocked at 7.06 in the 60-yard dash and has registered a 3.97 home-to-first time.

At the plate,  he has an athletic stance, with a smooth load in back leg.  He has a short in-line stride, and aggressive hands hitting mostly hard hit pull side line drives during batting practice.  Behind the plate, he has a 1.97 to 2.15 pop times, 73 mph positional velo.  He makes mostly accurate throws with an over the top release. He has a quick catch and throw with soft hands.

PBR: Have you taken any visits, or have any visits scheduled in the near future? If so, what schools, and how recently?
 
Hagedorn: No I have not taken any visits yet, nor do I have any scheduled.

PBR: Are you looking for anything in particular in a school? (Example: high academics, certain academic program, local, etc.)
 
Hagedorn: My main focus is going to a school where I can continue to develop as a player,  it is important to me to be on a team that faces great competition and has a great coaching staff. location isn't a issue.

PBR: How did you do your junior year? What were your high school statistics? And how did your team do?
 
Hagedorn: We had a solid year at 27-7 and we lost out to eventual state finalist Jeff City 1-0 in districts.  I batted .404 with 31 RBI and four home runs. I made 1st Team All-Conference and 1st Team All-District for the third year in a row. And, I have been the team captain for the past two years.

PBR: What are you goals for your senior season?

Hagedorn: My goals are to win a state championship at Smith-Cotton and get better offensively and defensively.

PBR: What travel team do you play for? Are you playing fall ball with a team?
 
Hagedorn: I play for the MidWest Nationals 17 Blue during the summer and the Southern California Bombers in the fall and winter.

PBR: Do you play any other sports?

Hagedorn: I do not play any other sports due to my focus on baseball the last couple years.

PBR: What are your ACT and GPA?
 
Hagedorn: I have an ACT score of 23 and a GPA of 3.2
