Prep Baseball Report Missouri/Kansas held the Preseason All-State Showcase at Mac N Seitz Baseball on Sunday, February 21.  Nearly 75 players in the 2017 class attended. 

Player's profiles have been updated with video, profile pitcher, times and velocities.  Click on each player to see their profile. 

We will break down each position from the event, taking a look at the outfielders today.  Although some players played multiple positions, this is just a review of their outfield performance.  Players are listed in alphabetical order.

Outfielders

Jackson Doherty, Olathe East (KS), 2017
Doherty is a 5-foot-7 145-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2017 class from Olathe South HS. He ran a 4.38 home-to-first and has a 76 mph exit velo. At the plate, starts in slightly open stance, in line stride, hands walk away from stride, aggressive swing, used middle of cage during batting practice.  In the outfield, over the top release, 66 mph positional velo, plays through the ball, catches ball in position ready to throw, clean arm action. 

Ryan Ferger, Blue Valley Northwest (KS), 2017
Ferger is a 6-foot-1 195-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2017 class from Blue Valley Northwest HS. He ran a 4.09 home-to-first and has an exit velo of 92 mph. At the plate, starts in wide stance, controlled leg kick, creates linear load and power into contact, showed pop to pull side with middle to pull approach.  In the outfield, 85 mph positional velo, one of top velos for the event, arm works, fields ball in athletic position, high three quarters release, quick catch and throw. 

Noah Frederick, Blue Valley Southwest (KS), 2017
Frederick is a 6-foot 155-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2017 class from Blue Valley Southwest HS.  He ran a 4.64 home-to-first and has an exit velo of 78 mph. At the plate, smooth rhythm in load from athletic set up, open stance with controlled leg lift, level path through the ball, gap to gap approach during batting practice.  In the outfield, 68 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, quick catch and throw with momentum through the catch. 

Cameron Gardner, Blue Valley West (KS), 2017
Gardner is a 5-foot-10 150-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2017 class.  He ran a 4.20 home to first and has an 85 mph exit velo. At the plate, athletic set up, short stride and short bat path to contact, simple and repeatable swing, mostly pull side line drives during batting practice.  In the outfield, 78 mph positional velo, loose over the top action, quick feet and quick exchange, throws have carry.

Mason Gipe, Blair Oaks (MO), 2017
Gipe is a 5-foot-11 2015-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2017 class from Blair Oaks HS.  He ran a 4.16 home to first and has an exit velo of 88 mph. At the plate, athletic set up, smooth load, short stride, quick and strong hands, power to pull side, solid consistent contact.  In the outfield, high three quarters release, crow hop with momentum through the catch, 79 mph positional velo, one of top velos for the event, strong frame.

Collin Hill, Liberty (MO), 2017
Hill is a 5-foot-10 160-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2017 class from Liberty HS.  He ran a 4.52 home to first and has an exit velo of 79 mph. At the plate, balanced set up, quick toe touch, gap-to-gap approach. In the outfield, three quarters release, crow hop, plays through the catch, clean transfer, 69 mph positional velo.

Tripp Horsey, Glendale (MO), 2017
Horsey is a 5-foot-7 155-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouir’s 2017 class from Glendale HS. He ran a 4.32 home to first and has an exit velo of 81 mph. At the plate, solid consistent line drives to left-center, open stance, controlled leg lift, aggressive hands, level though zone, body under control.  In the outfield, 75 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, quick catch and throw with momentum through the catch, positional velo of 75 mph.  

Michael Lane, Blue Valley (KS), 2017
Lane is a 6-foot-1 160-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2017 class from Blue Valley HS.  He has a 81 mph exit velo. At the plate, athletic stance, smooth rhythm, loose and quick hands with level bat path, stays on the ball, gap-to-gap approach, repeats swing.  In the outfield, 79 mph positional velo, one of top velos for the event, high three quarters release, arm works, quick feet with clean transfer, plays through the ball.

Grant Lathrop, Olathe East (KS), 2017
Lathrop is a 6-foot 170-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2017 class from Olathe East HS.  He ran a 4.15 home to first, one of fastest LHH times of the event, and has an exit velo of 88 mph, one of the top LHH exit velos of the event. At the plate, open stance, smooth load, slightly closed in stride, consistent line drives gap-to-gap during batting practice.  In the outfield, 78 mph positional velo, over the top release, arm works, clean transfer, quick release, plays behind the ball with momentum through the catch.

Jake Lynn, Rockhurst (MO), 2017
Lynn is a 5-foot-9 160-pound right-handed outfielder in Missouri’s 2017 class from Rockhurst HS.  He ran a 4.14 home to first and has an exit velo of 81 mph. At the plate, balanced stance, hands walk away from short stride, lifts leg to stride, level bat path through the zone, gap-to-gap approach.  In the outfield, 72 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, crow hop, quick catch and throw, quick footwork.

Jamie Mitchell, Blue Valley (KS), 2017
Mitchell is a 6-foot-1 180-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2017 class from Blue Valley HS.  He ran a 4.06 home to first, one of fastest LHH times of the event and has an exit velo of 86 mph, one of the top LHH exit velos of the event. At the plate, thin stance with long stride, aggressive hands, hits with leverage against front side, quick bat speed, strong hands, gap-to-gap approach.  In the outfield, 82 mph positional velo,one of top velos for the event, over the top release, fluid footwork with clean exchange.

Casey Morgan, Blue Valley Southwest (KS), 2017
Morgan is a 5-foot-11 175-pound right-handed outfielder in Kansas’ 2017 class from Blue Valley Southwest HS. He ran a 4.15 home to first and has an exit velo of 88 mph exit velo. At the plate, wide set up, controlled load, short stride, gap-to-gap approach.  In the outfield, over the top release, 66 mph positional velo, works behind the ball before catch, clean glove to hand transfer.

Tanner Orand, Eisenhower (KS), 2017
Orand is a 5-foot-8 165-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2017 class from Eisenhower HS.  He ran a 4.21 home to first and has an exit velo of 84 mph exit velo. At the plate, open stance, short in-line stride, free and loose hands, gap-to-gap approach.  In the outfield, high three quarters release, long arm circle, 80 mph positional velo, one of top velos for the event, crow hop, works through the catch, fluid footwork with clean exchange.

Oakley Reed, Olathe South (KS), 2017
Reed is a 6-foot-1 175-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2017 class from Olathe South HS.  He ran a 4.01 home to first, one of fastest LHH times of the event, and has an exit velo of 81 mph. At the plate, physical hitter with aggressive swing, athletic stance, smooth load, power to pulls side, body stays under control. In the outfield, aggressive to the ball with momentum through the catch, 80 mph positional velo, one of top velos for the event, arm works, athletic actions. 

Jake Sanders, Gardner Edgerton (KS), 2017
Sander is a 6-foot-1 190-pound right-handed hitting outfielder from Kansas’ 2017 class from Gardner Edgerton HS.  He has an exit velo of  86 mph and ran a 4.07 home to first, one of fastest RHH times of the event. At the plate, athletic set up, double to tap, level path though the zone, mostly pull side line drives during batting practice.  In the outfield, high three quarters release, loose arm action, clean transfer, 75 mph positional velo.

Edward Scott, Manhattan (KS), 2017
Scott is a 5-foot-10 150-pound switch-hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2017 class from Manhattan HS. He ran a 4.22 home to first, one of fastest LHH times of the event, and has an exit velo of 84 mph from both sides of the plate.  At the plate, athletic stance, higher leg kick from left side, in line stride, loose and level bat path from both sides, showed more power from right side, middle to pull line drives from both sides.  In the outfield, 74 mph positional velo, loose over the top arm slot, plays behind the ball and through the catch, clean exchange with quick release.

Luke Sosya, Mill Valley (KS), 2017
Sosya is a 6-foot-3 200-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2017 class from Mill Valley HS.  He ran a 4.28 home to first and has an exit velo of 86 mph.  At the plate, has a balanced set up, no wasted movement in load, minimal had load, short stride, gap-to-gap approach.

Tim Wood Jr., Gardner Edgerton (KS), 2017
Wood is a 5-foot-11 175-pound right-handed hitting outfielder from Kansas’ 2017 class from Gardner Edgerton HS.  He ran a 4.21 home to first and has an exit velo of 88 mph. At the plate, balanced set up, no wasted movement in load, aggressive and quick hands, level through the zone, mostly middle line drives during batting practice.  In the outfield, 79 mph positional velo, one of top velos for the event, high three quarters release, fluid footwork with clean exchange, momentum through the catch.

Trey Ziegenbein, Blue Springs (MO), 2017  
Ziegenbein is a 6-foot-3 160-pound right-handed hitting outfielder from Missouri’s 2017 class from Blue Springs HS.  He ran a 4.41 home to first and has an exit velo of 86 mph. At the plate, open stance, fast bat speed, stays on ball through contacnt, body under control, line drives to pull side.  In the outfield, aggressive to the ball, loose arm action, high three quarters release, plays through the ball, quick catch and release with quick footwork, 80 mph positional velo, one of top velos for the event
