Unsigned Senior Q&A with Drew Blair

A veteran of PBR events, OF/RHP Drew Blair from Lee's Summit HS has shown progression in the past year. While he may be undersized, he has shown to be mechanically sound and consistent in all aspects of his game

We got some thoughts from Drew on his baseball career to this point:

Drew Blair, OF/RHP
PBR: What do you expect going into your senior season?
Blair: I hope to become stronger, win a lot of games with my high school and summer team, and have an opportunity to play at the next level.

PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player?
Blair: My defense and my arm are probably my strengths.

PBR: What aspect of your game do you believe needs the most improvement?
Blair: I need to improve on be consistent at the plate.

PBR: What are your expectations and experiences in the recruiting process?
Blair: I’ve e-mailed a few colleges but I haven’t had any coach talk to me directly.  I hope to open some eyes this fall and next year to start having conversations with colleges who have interest.

PBR: What type of program would you like to play at? What is most important to you: Caliber of program, coaching staff, academics, etc…?
Blair: For me, the most important thing is academics.  Then I look at the caliber of the program, coaching staff, and the location of the university among other things.

PBR: What schools are you most interested in right now, and why?
Blair: I’m most interested in Division 2 schools that are with 3 to 4 hours of Kansas City because I feel like that is a level for my skill set and I would like to be closer to home for college.  Some specific schools would be Missouri Western, Washburn, Emporia State, Drury and others.

PBR: What were your personal goals for the 2012 season and were they met? Goals for the 2013 season?
Blair: My goal was to bat .400, have no errors, and have some colleges coaches talk to me.  None were met as I batted in the .300 range, had 2 throwing errors, and had no talks with college coaches.

PBR: What team do you play for in the summer?
Blair: The Midwest BlackSox 18U

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher/hitter that you have faced?
Blair: The toughest pitcher I’ve faced is Jordan Knutson who pitches for my high school’s team.

PBR: What is your fondest memory or highlight from your 2012 baseball season (High School or Summer)?
Blair: My fondest memory of this summer was when my team traveled to Lincoln, Nebraska for a tournament.  We went 5-1 on our way to winning the championship.  In one of our games, I hit a rope through the right side that scored the go ahead run in a game where offense lacked on both teams.  We went on to win that game 2-0.  Also, I pitched a complete game 1 hitter with 10 strikeouts.

PBR: What is your most memorable moment in baseball so far in your life?
Blair: 2 years ago, there were bases loaded with 1 out.  It was a close game and the opposing team’s best chance to score.  I was playing right when the hitter fouled a fly ball down the right field line.  It was relatively deep.  I made the catch on the run, twisted by body toward the plate, and threw a rocket to home.  It was on a line right to our catcher who didn’t have to move.  He caught it and the runner tagging from third was out by 20 feet.

PBR: You recently attended a PBR Showcase, what are your thoughts on how it will be beneficial to you as you keep moving forward in the recruiting process?
Blair: It is going to be beneficial because now I have two videos on PBR’s website that many coaches can look at to see my mechanics and skills in the outfield, on the mound, and at the plate.
