Uncommitted Spotlight: Mason Whiteside

Today, we’ll highlight Fort Zumwalt West 2B/OF Mason Whiteside, a strong 5-foot-11, 190-pound left-handed hitter that’s currently ranked at No. 31 overall in the state’s 2021 class.

It’s a smooth operation at the plate for Whiteside with whippy bat speed and controlled offensive actions throughout.

Whiteside is an athletic and physical 5-foot-11, 190-pound left-handed hitting outfield and infield prospect in Missouri’s 2021 class. At the event, he ran a 7.08 second 60 and posted an exit velocity of 90 mph. During batting practice, Whiteside shows a smooth load with a higher leg lift, rhythm with his hands, in line stride, quick hands, controls the barrel, remains balanced throughout, sprayed the baseball during round, showed pop to his pull side.  On the infield, shows athleticism, clean transfers, quick transfer to release, momentum towards target, 83 mph across the diamond, mostly accurate with throws.

Whiteside is an athletic and strong 5-foot-11, 180-pound, left-handed hitting middle infielder in Missouir’s 2021 class. At the event he ran a 7.40 second 60 and 4.82 home-to-first. At the plate, Whiteside posted an exit velocity of 87 mph, higher leg lift, smooth load with hands, slightly closed off stride, controls the barrel, quick hands, gap-to-gap approach during batting practice. Defensively, fast twitch actions, athleticism on the infield, quick arm, strong arm with carry on throws, positional velocity of 80 mph, accurate throws across the infield.

 

 

6/12/18 - Whiteside, a Michigan commit, is a strong 5-foot-10 175-pound left-handed hitting second baseman in Missouri’s 2021 class.  He ran a 7.45 60 and a 4.57 home to first.  He has an 82 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, holds hand high with smooth pre pitch rhythm, leg kick, aggressive swing, body stays controlled, mostly gap to gap line drives, power to pull side, hands work inside the ball, good barrel control.  On the infield, 79 mph positional velocity, short over the top arm slot, fluid footwork to the ball, clean transfer with aggressive footwork, mostly accurate throws.

 

 

6/13/17 - Whiteside is a 5-foot-10 155-pound left-handed hitting second baseman in Missouri’s 2021 class.  He ran 7.79 laser timed 60 and a 4.87 home to first.  He has a 78 mph exit velo. At the plate, open stance, leg kick with hand load, aggressive swing, mostly pull side contact during batting practice, does not get cheated with swing. On the infield, quick catch and throw, fluid actions to the ball, fields the ball in athletic position, soft hands, momentum before the catch, mostly accurate throws.  Singled to center three times during the game.
