One of the most versatile uncommitted prospects in Missouri, the 6-foot-3, 182-pound Horstmeier is a high-level athlete, having run a 6.72 60 at a past Prep Baseball Report event. His athleticism translates well all over the field.

From the infield, he was clocked at 83 mph across the infield and 84 from the outfield. Offensively, he shows quick hands at the plate and makes consistent hard contact. Currently ranked No. 20 in Missouri’s 2014 class, Horstmeier was a member of Team Missouri at the Midwest Future Games in 2012.

Horstmeier has been a consistent producer at Fulton for the last three seasons. Last spring, he led the team with a .478 batting average and a .542 on-base percentage. As a sophomore, Horstmeier broke the Fulton school record with a .537 batting average. Even more impressive, he didn’t strike out once at the plate.

Horstmeier, who also plays football (wide receiver) and basketball, said he has had several offers from junior colleges and Division 2 programs thus far.

“Late summer I visited Drury University, Jeff Co and Meramac,” he said. “I have a scheduled visit at Crowder in September and getting one scheduled at Lindenwood sometime soon.”

Also a top-level student, Horstmeier said he scored a 26 on the ACT, and will retake again in October. He holds a 4.0 GPA and in ranked No. 8 in his graduating class.

“Academics are important to me,  I'm undecided on a major at this time,” he said. “I'm leaning towards the field of engineering.  I would like to stay within six to eight hours from home.  Obviously, a good baseball program is a big factor for me.  I am a shortstop and pitcher in high school ball, and also play outfield in the summer, so I think I can make a positive impact on a program.”
