Unsigned Senior Spotlight: Reid Kesel (Fatima, 2014)

Shon Plack
Missouri Scouting Director

Reid Kesel, (Fatima, 2014) a repeat performance of 2013 would be a great season for the 6-foot-1, 165 pound shortstop.  He lead his team to an exciting 2-0 extra-inning win over Springfield Catholic in the State Championship game,  and he was named as an honorable-mention all-state infielder for Missouri Class 3.  Kesel batted .377 with 30 RBI, two home runs and only two errors in the field for the 23-5 State Champion Comets.

So, after driving in the game-winning RBI and scoring in the eighth-inning to give your team a 2-0 win in the state championship what could be better?  "My main goal is to guide and lead me team back to the state championship. My individual goals are to be all-state, bat at least .450 with 30 or more RBI, and 2 or fewer errors. Also, I want to have a winning record on the mound," Kesel stated.

Kesel is a complete player that displays good actions and sound mechanics in the field and at the plate. In the infield, Kesel has a good approach to the ball, with soft and quick hands while displaying a quick, clean transfer. His throws were all accurate, with a top velocity of 77-mph across the diamond. At the plate, Kesel has a repeatable swing with quick hands. He is very balanced in the box and uses his quick hands to produce a short, level swing with extension through contact. He makes consistent hard contact and displays some power to the pull side as well. His top exit velocity off the bat was 80-mph.

He has visited Newman University in Wichita, Kansas and Lindenwood in St. Charles, Missouri, and getting some notice from other schools such as Drury, Central Missouri, Wichita State and Kansas State.  But, Kesel has no visits scheduled at this point.

He plays for the Central Missouri Prospects during the summer and boosts a 3.9 GPA with a 27 ACT.  The future is bright for this Fatima senior with goals to improve on a great 2013 season.
