PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? What were you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career at?

Porter: My expectations were to try and build relationships with coaches, see who I could easily connect and bond with. I was looking for a school with good education, good development, but most importantly coaches that would help get me ready for life after college and help me become a better person.

PBR: Did location or distance from home play a factor in your decision?

Porter: I definitely was looking to play somewhere down South. 

PBR: When did the recruiting process really start to heat up for you? Where did the school you committed to first see you play?

Porter: Summer of my freshman year. Louisville first saw me play at the 2022 Future Games. 

PBR: What do you like most about the program you chose, and what were the key factors in making your decision?

Porter: I really liked that Louisville has my future planned out already as a junior in high school. From when I first step foot on campus to when they expect me to graduate. I already have a really great idea of what to expect when I get there. They are also 2nd in MLB debuts ever since that coaching staff has been there. They know how to get players ready for the next level and that’s ultimately the end goal.

PBR: What other schools were on your short list before you made your final decision?

Porter: Kansas State and Texas A&M

PBR: Who is the best player you have faced in your state? What about them makes for a tough opponent?

Porter: Well I’m gonna say 3 because deciding between 1 is too hard. Pitcher is Tate McGuire (Liberty North, 2023; Arkansas signee), he moves really well and his pitches are tunneled really well and it’s really hard to tell what pitch is coming. Position players are Trey Snyder (Liberty North, 2024; Tennessee signee) and Addison Smith (Liberty, 2023; Oklahoma State signee), both are so athletic and so smooth at everything they do at shortstop and at the plate. 

PBR: At what point in your career did you realize you were a college-caliber player and became serious about taking your game to the next level?

Porter: My freshman summer. During the NPI my freshman year, Shooter Hunt posted a video of me and I was to be honest really surprised at the time and it gave me so much confidence and everything took off from there.

PBR: What advice would you give to young baseball players striving to get where you are?

Porter: Be Patient and control your emotions. Work as hard as you can, one day it will be evident the work your putting in is working. Some kids results may take longer than others, but you can’t get frustrated and you just have to trust God and the process and journey he has for you. In the end as long as you work hard at whatever it is in life, you will eventually be rewarded and it will all work out for good.

PBR: What is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point?

Porter: Winning districts sophomore year. It was my schools first one in 20+ years. It also meant so much as players to do it for Coach Remley because he works so hard for us and he more than deserved to get one.

PBR: Preview your high school team's season for us. How do you feel your team will be?

Porter: We are definitely very motivated this year, especially after how last year ended. I believe we have one of the best lineups in the state this year. We have 7 out of 9 starters coming back and I’m very confident the 2 new starters will have no problem fitting in. We have a lot of very underrated guys that will make a name for themselves this year.
