Recruits Scout Day: Quick Hits

Eliott Wilk
Central Region Operations Director

On Wednesday, October 16th, the Prep Baseball Missouri staff traveled to Grizzlies Ballpark in Sauget, IL to host the Recruits Scout Day. This event, featured 15+ players from the Recruits program in attendence.

All of our events offer players the opportunity to update their recruiting resume and showcase their talents in front of our staff. We also use these events as identifiers for future invite-only events, like the Preseason All-State, our summer Top Prospect Games, and the prestigious Prep Baseball Future Games that takes place at the tail end of the summer. To see what our events offer, click HERE.

Earlier, our staff rolled out the day’s statistical standouts in leaderboard format within our ‘Stat Story’, which you can find HERE. Today, after combing through our notes from the day, we’ve compiled some of the event’s standouts within these ‘Quick Hits’. Read below to learn about 5 names that popped to our staff from Wednesday's trip to Sauget.

QUICK HITS

+ 2024 Junior Future Games alum INF Jon Calcaterra (Lindbergh, 2028) continues to be a physical, upside right-handed bat to note. Using his 6-foot-1, 204-pound frame, Calcaterra posted a top 3 exit velocity on the day with a 94.9 mph mark, sending his best ball 333 feet. He also averaged 82.3 mph per batted ball, displaying easy, raw power and the ability to elevate balls to all fields. That strength played in the field as well where the freshman fired a 81 mph bullet across the diamond from short.

+ INF Brayden Good (Festus, 2027) is an upside 6-foot-1, 175-pound athlete to keep an eye on from this look. With plenty of room to add size and strength, Good consistently elevated the ball throughout his round of batting practice, reaching a peak exit velocity of 86.5 mph on the day. On the infield, the sophomore showed clean, fluid actions at shortstop, with reliable hands to pair. His arm played with accuracy and carry, posting the top infield velocity of the day with a 82 mph mark. Good also showed his athleticism, running an event-leading 7.18 60 for good measure.

+ CIF Henry Brown (Festus, 2027) put together one of the loudest rounds of BP of the day on Wednesday. Packed with strength in a 6-foot, 207-pound frame, Brown used a simple, repeatable swing to drive the ball to all fields throughout his round, posting the day’s top exit velocity (97.2 mph), average exit velocity (90.2 mph), average distance per batted ball (221 feet), and hard hit percentage (57%).

+ OF Karsen Stout (Lindbergh, 2027) and INF Landon Matthews (Lafayette, 2026) are two other hitters to note from this look. Stout used a compact, inside-out left-handed swing to reach exit velocities upwards of 95.2 mph with an all-fields approach while Matthews reached 94.1 mph from the right side of the plate, sending his best ball 356 feet, working primarily to the pullside of the field.
