It has been a busy 10 months since the last official update to the Nebraska class of 2019 rankings. With the extension of the PBR National 2019 Rankings from 40 to 60, we are now able to rank 60 prospects in the Nebraska. The Spring and Summer season allowed the Prep Baseball Report scouting staff to track down emerging talent at high school games, tournaments and showcases.
There has been some shifting in the Top 20 but the top three remain the same since the initial release of the class rankings in 2016. James Valdivia (Arizona State) , Sam Wibbels (Kentucky), and Sayer Diederich (Nebraska) all made their commitments last fall and will attract the most attention in the state leading in the 2019 MLB Draft.
- Sam Wibbels (RHP, Hastings) made the jump from number three to two spot after an improved spring season and dominate performance at the Nebraska Elite 50. The 6-foot, 200 pound right handed pitcher has the most electric stuff in the 2019 class with a low 90's fastball and a power breaking ball.
- Logan Van Treeck (LHP, Lincoln Southeast) is the highest ranked uncommitted prospect in the 2019 class but has picked up strong interest this summer on the showcase circuit because of his project-able frame, feel for breaking ball and a fastball that will get up to the 87-88 mph range.
- Quinn Mason (RHP, Gretna) made the biggest jump in the 2019 rankings as he came into the year a relatively unknown prospect in the 2019 class. The dual sport athletes fastball has been clocked into the low 90's this summer as he continues to develop pitch-ability wise. He's got a project-able frame and has caught the eyes of many recruiters across the Midwest.
- Alex Wize (RHP, Burke) jumps into the rankings for the first time after a 8-10 mph velocity jump from the 2017 season. We got the opportunity to see the 6-foot-4, 170 pound right handed pitcher last fall when his fastball was in the 75-76 mph range and showed under developed secondary offerings. Wize had a strong spring season as the #3 starter for Burke and has seen his velocity jump into the 85-86 mph range since the state tournament. Wize has some polish with his mid 3/4 arm action and feel for a 11/6 shaped breaking ball.
