Malaret Motivated To Help Boston College Win Games

HYDE PARK, Ma. - Growing up just south of Boston, Gabe Malaret never imagined making his college home nearby. But times change.

“I grew up in Boston and when I was young I wasn’t into Boston College,” Malaret admitted. “But eventually I realized I’m a good fit for it.”

Enough so to accept an offer and commit to the university located 20 minutes from his home in Hyde Park.

“I like the culture, the great education and that my family can watch me play,” the top-ranked 2025 third baseman in New England noted.

It was two years ago when Malaret and Boston College first connected.

“I did a fall clinic in eighth grade and that’s where the coaches saw me,” the Dexter Soutfield sophomore reflected. “Coach (Mike) Gambino was impressed with me.”

Malaret reconnected with the head coach at BC back in early January.

“I went to a camp and they saw my swings and they saw me take ground balls,” the 262nd-rated 2025 in the nation related. “They saw how I move my feet and how quick my hands are.”

There was more that stood out to Boston College about the 6-1 190-pounder.

“They like my body language, that I’m a hard worker, and definitely that I’m a great leader and can help them win games,” Malaret explained.

A commitment soon followed for Malaret, who also had been offered by Northeastern.

“Coach Gambino is a great coach who values teamwork,” Malaret pointed out why Boston College became his top option after high school.

The decision to make BC his college choice ended a desire to play at the next level that began some time ago.

“At a young age, 10 or 11, that’s when I started focusing on college baseball,” the 18th-ranked sophomore third baseman in the country related. “I started working out and getting better. In eighth grade BC started watching me play.”

Getting noticed proved beneficial as well.

“I did a couple PBRs this summer and also in the summer of 2021 to expose my name and that definitely helped,” Malaret said. “I worked to improve, hitting every single day, taking ground balls, throwing, anything in my free time to get better. I realized hard work made me better and I continued to work harder to help get me where I am now.”

Even with a commitment in hand, Malaret is not satisfied.

“I need to keep outworking other players and show I care about the game,” the sixth-rated 2025 in New England said. “That will help me get on the field quicker than others.”

A 3.45 student at Dexter Southfield, the 16-year-old is confident about what he can provide the Atlantic Coast Conference program.

“I will bring leadership, a good teammate, a good listener and a player very motivated to get better to help BC win games,” Malaret said.

While somewhere in the infield is where Malaret is expected to play, the third-rated sophomore in Massachusetts has high expectations regarding his days ahead at Boston College.

“The one thing I’m looking forward to is getting a better relationship with the coaches,” Malaret concluded. “My parents are in education so another focus for me is education.”
