Position(s): LHP
Projected Position: Starter

Background

John Wilson is a 6-foot, 175 pound left-handed pitcher from North Hunterdon High School. Wilson has been very solid throughout his high school career and carried it into this summer; pitching well for Flemington Post 31. He has pitched in the Metropolitan Baseball Classic for Chet Lemon’s Juice and in the Rivalry Classic for the Red Sox. I was able to catch two of the three appearances he has made in the last two weekends. Here are the combined statistics from the two outings I was able to catch: 2.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB (1 HBP)/1 K. The pitchability lefty recently committed to Old Dominion.

Scouting Report

Wilson has always been able to pitch at a high level. When I first saw the left-hander, he was a sophomore and was very effective with solid command of his fastball/curveball combination. While he still shows good command, his velocity has improved. He now features a fastball that will sit 81-85 miles-per-hour, topping out as high at 87 MPH during the American Legion State Tournament. His breaking ball has 12-to-6 depth at 71-74 MPH and he will flash a changeup which shows some potential at 74-75 MPH. Wilson has repeatable mechanics with solid direction. Pitching from a high ¾ arm slot, the Old Dominion commits some angle on his deceptive fastball. Wilson has the ability that will allow him to win many games in college.
