Southern Nevada Scout Day Recap

Brett Harrison
Nevada Scouting Director

The Southern Nevada Scout Day attracted some of the top prospects from the remaining high schools in Southern Nevada ranging from Pac-12 commits to under the radar freshman. The day was highlighted by a new Nevada record as Josiah Cromwick, an Oregon recruit, with big time power coming from a simple, rhythmic swing earned an electric 1.77 Pop Time placing him into the elite category as he now ranks third nationally in the 2020 Class behind Kyle Teel’s 1.71(NJ) and Austin Embrey’s 1.75 (AL). The physically built backstop receives the ball extremely well and has to with the star-studded pitching staff that Palo Verde will be rolling out this year including Nevada’s Super 60 representative, Paulshawn Pasqualotto, and fellow Southern Nevada Scout Day standout Mason Neville.

Neville, an 2022 LHP/OF Arizona commit, showcased his two-way abilities starting the day off with an event best 6.65 60 Time, followed by a line drive filled batting practice session, threw an event high 90 mph Outfield Velocity, had feel around the bag at first base and sat 86-87 mph on the mound flashing plus secondary stuff that should continue to get even better as he continues to gain feel for his off-speed pitches.

2021 IF Garrett Cutting, Oregon commit, caught the eye of our National Crosscheckers, Nathan Rode and Shooter Hunt, with his performance on Sunday. "Cutting, a shortstop in the ’21 class, Oregon commit, looks even more physical, I think he's really going to be able to swing it at the next level and I'm excited to watch him next summer.” Topping out at 87 mph across the diamond, Cutting projects to be an high level defender with clean footwork to make each play with ease at the Southern Nevada Scout Day paired with a batting practice round that proved his ability to drive the ball to all fields while showing power to the pull side consistently finding the barrel.

Switch hitting, two-way prospect, 2021 IF/RHP Elie Kligman, announced his presence at the Southern Nevada Scout Day with his ability to drive the ball from both sides of the plate with both swings mirroring each other with a hanging leg kick and extended finish through each pitch and followed it up with an 86 mph Infield Velocity. He earned the second highest Fastball Velocity on the mound at 85 mph with projectable secondary stuff that is trending towards potential plus stuff.

2023 OF, Jet Gilliam from Boulder City High School, put his name on the map during batting practice round where he showcased his ability to drive the ball all over the yard and projects to add power to his arsenal as he continues to develop his youthful, athletic frame. His comfort and confidence coming through the ball paired with an 83 mph Outfield Velocity makes him an exciting player to follow these next four years.
