COMMITMENT CORNER Q & A

PBR:  Tell us about your commitment; Where you have pledged and why did you choose that institution?

Scanlon:  Texas Tech University. I always wanted to play in a Power 5 Conference & after speaking to recruiting Coach J-Bob Thomas it was clear that Texas Tech was going to be my new home in college. Coach Thomas scouted me in PBR’s Future Games in Indiana last year. He saw me as a two-way player and with. Tech’s recent success going to CWS in Omaha - I am so excited and can’t wait to become a Red Raider!

PBR:  It's already fall and winter is coming up next; Tell us what your plans are in terms of training, practice, or anything specific to your development as a player?

Scanlon:  Fall Ball - (weekends). I’m playing for two travel teams; Triton Rays Kings Baseball local tournaments & Tri State Arsenal in the PG WWBA World Championship-Jupiter, FL.

Strength Training - I train @ Rockland Peak Performance (RPP) during the week - specifically working on balancing my strength and speed. I’ve been in their care for the past 5 years and Owner Nunzio Signore, Hitter Rx - Mike Rozema & Co-Owner Bahram Shirazi are all experts at their respective roles at this great facility.

Baseball Training - I’m hitting Live batting practice off a current Professional Pitcher outdoors 2 days a week this fall & the balance of the week is tee/soft toss & live BP indoors. Starting in November - March I will rejoin Ani Ramos Catching Academy also my 5th year. Ani & lead catching instructor - John Kroeger continue to develop me as a catcher and student of the game. Two of the VERY BEST coaches in baseball. I will also be enrolling in RPP's Pitching Lab November - February receiving instruction from Robbie Aviles former Cleveland Indians organization pitcher.

PBR:  Baseball is a game built on adversity, on failure; What are some techniques you have used over your young career that have helped you handle with those adversities?

Scanlon:  I talk to my Dad constantly about my approach. He emphasizes the mental approach of the game and if I fail & did it correctly he seems to be ok with the results as long as I adjust next time around.

PBR: What is your favorite memory from this past summer playing baseball?

Scanlon:  That’s a tough one, I can’t choose just one memory, I have 4 that stand out.

  1. Playing in PG WWBA in Georgia for the last time.
  2. Pitching a 9 inning CG win in the European Championships in Italy for Team Ireland Vs. Team Germany was special (I’m 1/2 Irish & 1/2 German).
  3. Hitting a homerun at Doubleday Field in Cooperstown @ PBR NY event (Call to the Hall).
  4. Playing for Team Red Sox @ East Coast Pro event @ Rogers Centre in Toronto.
PBR:  Who is your biggest influence in the game today?

Scanlon:  There are multiple people all at different levels, My Parents for sure because of their tremendous support. RPP staff, Ani Ramos & John Kroeger.

PBR:  How has your experience been with PBR NY? Would you recommend your teammates utilize our platform?

Scanlon: I can’t thank PBR-NY enough for personally inviting me to the PBR Future Games in Indiana last year. It was a top-notch experience and you were a major part of how Texas Tech University discovered me. I have attended several PBR NY events and the Coaches / Directors get to know the players in the state from evaluating you firsthand. Your rank is based on personal observation and metrics Vs. tournament batting averages.
