PBR:  Tell us all about your recruitment process, when it started, and why you decided to commit to ? (enter your school into this question)

Genther:  The recruiting process began for me winter of 8th grade and really grew spring and summer of my freshman year. I had schools watching me throughout the summer at different tournaments and events where I then started to begin conversation with various schools. I visited different campus’, including Maryland where I later committed August before my sophomore year due to loving both the coaching staff and the up and coming baseball program. The following June, I found out that the then Maryland head coach John Szefc had left to take the job at Virginia Tech. He reached out to me to talk about what had transpired and talked to me about following him to VT. I talked with  my family and ended up staying with Szefc, as we had built a great relationship and gained a lot of trust especially since he also derives from the Hudson Valley. It was very tough to leave Maryland and Coach Vaughn, who I guarantee will keep the program on its pace to do bigger and better things. But, after visiting Virginia Tech I was absolutely blown away by the beautiful campus, all the amenities there for student athletes, a brand new baseball stadium and facilities, and most of all the atmosphere that’s there, which I just couldn’t turn down.

PBR:   Looking at your skill-set on the baseball field, what would you say your biggest strength at the next-level will be?

Genther:  At the next level, I would say that my biggest strength will be a culmination of my glove and my speed. Shortstop is a very demanding defensive position and I put extreme value into working on my craft for that side of the ball. Also, I  think my speed gives me great range and turns hits into extra bases a lot of times, which at the next level is very important with close ball games where the 90 foot difference between bags can determine who’s on the better side of the scorecard.

PBR:  What’s your No. 1 priority going into the Winter in terms of getting prepared for next spring?

Genther:  I don’t think I can really pinpoint one major priority this winter I’m primarily focused on. In my book, everything is labeled #1 because everything is just as important as the others to becoming a better ball player. This winter I’m focused on getting to a stronger weight, working on my hands defensively, continuing  to work on consistency with the bat, getting faster, staying with my meal plan, and really dive deep into the mental part of the game. Once I do these things and continue my obsession for getting better, I can guarantee you’re going to see a new and improved player come next spring.

PBR:   Who is your biggest influence when it comes to playing the game of baseball?

Genther:  Undoubtedly my biggest influence when it comes to baseball and life in general is my father. He’s done absolutely everything possible to work with me and given me every opportunity to chase my dream of playing professional baseball. On top of this, I think it’s really important to have many different influences whether it be a parent, a coach, a big leaguer, or even a peer that pushes you to be the best you can. All minds think differently and to be able to take one thing from each and put it all together for yourself, I think that’s how you become a complete player and improve.

PBR:  Prep Baseball Report’s No. 1 goal is to provide players with an unrivaled platform filled with next-level exposure through events and multi-media avenues. What’s your experience been with us?

Genther:  My experience with PBR was phenomenal. I attended the PROCASE this past summer and it provided a great opportunity, not only for me to showcase my skills in front of various college and pro scouts but to play with other committed players. PBR does an unbelievable job at providing  a platform for kids looking to take their careers to the next level and allowing players to see where they stand among their peers.
