Commitment Corner: 2022 MIF Carmelo Musacchia (Fordham Prep)

President, NY/PA

The Prep Baseball Report (NY/PA) is excited to have back one of our more popular features which gives a quick-hit "Q and A" look not only to the baseball side of commitments across New York and Pennsylvania, but also checking in with the player and seeing what they have been up to over the last several months.

Carmelo Musacchia SS / Fordham Prep, NY / 2022

PBR: Tell us about your commitment (where). Why did you choose this school? What are you most looking forward to when you step on campus?

MUSACCHIA: Growing up in a big city like Manhattan, it set a high standards for myself. But when I was able to walk around Boston and the beautiful Northeastern campus I knew it was home. The school has so much to offer, with the perk of being in one of America’s greatest cities. The coaching staff blew me away as well. I feel like I have known them for a few years, however it has only been a few months talking to them. Another key factor in my decision was the challenge. I know Northeastern is going to challenge me on and off the field. They have the perfect balance of academics and athletics. Not many schools in the country have a competitive baseball program and one of the best academic programs. I am most looking forward to meeting the team. Being able to step on campus and instantly have 40 brothers is a blessing. I can’t wait to spend countless hours with the team and work extremely hard with them!

PBR: How is your off-season training progressing?

MUSACCHIAEveryday I continue to challenge myself, whether it is waking up earlier, or staying in the gym later. I don’t have much free time anymore because I don’t allow myself to fully relax until my work is done. My goal this off season is to definitely get bigger and stronger, while also becoming a better athlete in general, including learning about the mental side of baseball. I want to become much more consistent, and be able to turn my bad days, into good days. I have been researching a lot on the mind in order to do so. Getting out in the cold doesn’t bother me either, so I am outside every day running hills, taking ground balls, etc. I think I will be able to achieve beyond my goals if I stay on the track I am now. Everyday I wake up and find a new way to compete and become a better version of myself.

PBR: Do you have any experience with PBR? If yes, how was your experience?

MUSACCHIAPBR helped me a lot with the recruiting process. Since recruiting was shut down this summer, it was almost impossible to get in front of coaches. But I was lucky enough to get invited to the PBR Futures Games, which helped a lot. The event was live-streamed and had every coach in the country watching, which opened so many doors for myself.

PBR: Who is your biggest influence, both on the field and off?

MUSACCHIAEver since I was a child I have always looked up to my dad. He has always provided endless support. I am so blessed to have someone who’s dream is to see my dream come true. He helps me with whatever I need to train and improve myself. Over quarantine he built me a gym and a cage since everything was shut down. He also makes sure I am always on top of my training so I can become the best athlete possible. He takes me to every practice and has never missed a game. I am extremely lucky to have someone invest so much time into me and prioritize my dream. Off the field he has taught me the importance of family and becoming a gentleman. I learn more from him everyday and couldn’t be happier to have him in my corner.

PBR: What goals do you have for 2021 HS Season?

MUSACCHIA: Loosing the season last year devastated me. We had an outstanding group of guys and there was no doubt in my mind we weren’t going to take home the trophy. But having to say goodbye to the seniors was one the most heart braking things I’ve had to do. This year we have a chance to redeem ourselves. We lost a lot of our core players so we lost a lot of respect. Our goal is to prove everyone wrong and give it our all. I haven’t played a game at Fordham Prep without the class of 2021, and knowing this is our last year playing together means we have to leave it all on the field.
