On the Rise: 2022 Outfielders

Dan Cevette
President, New York

Through our travels across the empire state this year, thousands of players have performed in front of our PBR NY scouting department. "On the Rise" player spotlight article will highlight different players from around the empire state that have impressed our staff. Today we take an inside look at several 2022 MIF's whose stock is rising.

Gavyn Boyle OF / Royalton-Hartland, NY / 2022

CEVETTE'S QUICK HIT: Boyle stands 6-foot-2, 180-pounds and oozes athleticism. The 6.8 60-yard dash runner impressed during the NYS Games this past June, and the Future Games down in Georgia. In the box he's slightly open with a smooth load and stride for timing, hands are fluid, strong, path is short to the ball, barrel creates natural lift through contact with pull-side juice. Defensively, Boyle can track baseballs with the best of them. His first step is advanced, his skillet is above average, and his arm-strength is headed north. Must follow from WNY.

Jack Hopko OF / Maine-Endwell, NY / 2022

CEVETTE'S QUICk HIT: Hopko stands an athletic 5-foot-11, 185-pounds with room for physical gains. He recently impressed at our TPG's in late Sept. showing off high-end skills on the day. At the plate he's relaxed, there's rhythm to his mechanics, barrel shows slight lift through contact with easy power projection. From the OF he's an average runner with above average instincts, stays through the ball with a strong, accurate throwing arm. Hails form the southern-tier and is a must follow in the 2022 class.

Scott Raymond OF / Clarence , NY / 2022

CEVETTE'S QUICK HIT: Raymond stands 6-foot-0, 205-pounds from a well-build, sturdy frame. Currently a 7.26 60-yard dash runner but expect to see that time lower as he develops. In the box, he's upright and relaxed, some slight movement in his hands. Loose fluid barrel path, signs of above average bat-speed, mostly level through contact with power to his pull-side. Defensively, would like to see him a bit more aggressive to the ball and using more of his lower half during his throws. His arm-strength was 79 mph currently with more in the tank. Another WNY OF to keep eyes on this winter/spring.

Andrew Dongelewic OF / Shaker , NY / 2022

CEVETTE'S QUICK HIT: Dongelewic has a lean, lanky build, one that should handle extra weight with ease. In the box the hands are loose and fluid, generates easy barrel speed with the ability to spray to all-fields. The arm-strength from the OF is above average with carry and accuracy to the bags. An absolute must follow from the Albany, NY area.

Irving Monegro OF / RHP / St. Raymond's, NY / 2022

CEVETTE'S QUICK HIT: Monegro stands 6-foot-1, 190-pounds with a physical frame, strong lower half. His batting practice displayed balance throughout the swing, hands were loose and direct to the ball, the barrel shows some natural lift, power projects to the gaps. In the OF he has the makings of a corner OF, stays behind the ball and gets his body working together with his throws. Arm strength is just average but he has plenty of time to make positive gains.
