Preseason Southern-Tier: Middle Infield Analysis

The 10 day, eight preseason event tour has finally finished here in New York. Nearly 600 players attended events over that 10 days making this the biggest preseason week in PBR New York history. Over the next six weeks, measurable stats, headshots, and videos are all being edited and added to players profiles. We will break down the events by positions with full player analysis. Today we take a deeper look at the Feb. 15 (Southern-Tier) Middle-infielders.

2021 2B/SS Ethan Drinon (Schoharie)
Athletic 6-foot-0, 140 pounds MIF. Offensively- Stands tall in the box with loose hands. Simple load, short flat bat path through the zone. Stays balanced throughout the swing, finishes with an upright follow through. Worked the middle of the field during the hitting portion. Had an exit velocity of 77 MPH. Defensively- Smooth infield actions with soft hands. Above average laterally, loose arm action making the throws across the diamond. Had an infield velocity of 72 MPH. The 2021 graduate has the frame with some development to be a 2B at the next level.

2021 SS Logan Haskell (Susquehanna Valley)
Athletic 5-foot-10, 160 SS. Offensively- Tall stance with loose hands pre-pitch. Small load, short compact swing with a flat bat path through the hitting zone. Balanced throughout the swing an upright finish. Displayed opposite field pop with an above average exit velocity of 89 MPH. Defensively- Smooth infield actions with soft hands. Gets squared to the ball under control with a ¾ short arm action across the infield. Had a position velocity of 76 MPH. The 2021 SS will be a player to follow. Has the tools to play every infield position as he continues to develop.

2020 2B/SS Fritz Huff (Seton Catholic)
Athletic 6-foot-0, 160 pounds. Offensively- Slightly open stance with loose hands. Will keep the hands close to the body with a small load, and will crouch down when attacking the hitting zone. Displayed some pull side pop during the hitting portion with an exit velocity of 83 MPH. Defensively- Active footwork with soft hands. Stays low and square when attacking the ball. Low ¾ arm action across the diamond with a position velocity of 70 MPH. The 2020 graduate improved INF and Exit velocity from past events. The Inf will be someone to follow in the future.

2021 SS Connor Joedicke (Margaretville)
Athletic 5-foot-10, 160 pound SS. Offensively- Wide stance in the box with high loose hand pre pitch. Simple load, quick bat path with some lift at the point of contact. Displayed some middle to opposite field pop in the hitting portion with an exit velocity of 80 MPH. Defensively- Active footwork with soft hands. Displayed smooth lateral range and stays squared when fielding the ball. A quick ¾ arm angle across the diamond. Positional velocity was 72 MPH. Additional strength will increase the numbers across the board. Projects as a SS at the next level.

2020 SS Josh Mollo (Union Endicott)
A lean 5-foot-10, 140 pounds SS with room to grow. Offensively- Tall wide stance in the box. Simple sort load with a quick bat, and flat barrel through the hitting zone. Balanced throughout the swing with an upright finish on the follow through. Displayed middle of the field contact and increased exit velocity from past events at 81 MPH. Defensively- Stays square and back on the ball. Moves well laterally and smooth exchange when throwing the ball. Quick ¾ arm slot when throwing across the infield. Improved arm strength to 72 MPH. The 2020 SS has the frame to grow into a solid INF at the next level.

2020 SS Max Odum (Elmira)
A lean 5-foot-10, 155 pounds SS. Offensively- Tall stance with hands close to the body. Uses a small leg lift to stride toward the pitcher when timing. Displayed quick hands with a short compact swing. Balanced throughout the swing and finished with an upright finish. Sprayed the ball all over the field during the hitting portion. Had an exit velocity of 79 MPH. Defensively- Active footwork and moves will laterally around the infield. Has soft hands and stays square when fielding the ball. Will use a quick glove tap for timing when throwing across the infield. Has a low ¾ arm slot and was 76 MPH across the infield. The 2020 SS is a fast twitch player and that plays with a bounce in his step. Projects as MIF at the college level.

2022 MIF Lucas Granger (Horseheads)
Athletic 5-foot-7, 135 pounds. Offensively- Stand in the box with a wide stance and slight bent in the knees. Loose hands with a slight arm bar when loading. Throws the hands to the hitting zone with a flat bat path. Balanced throughout the swing and finishes with one hand follow through. Displayed some pop in the middle of the field during the hitting portion. Had an exit velocity of 80 MPH. Defensively- In the INF, stays square to the ball and move well laterally. Displays soft hands and quick exchange on the throws across the diamond. The 2022 graduate is athletic enough to play all around the field. Will be a good follow as he gets stronger and develops.

2022 RHP/SS Michael Mancini
Athletic 5-foot-9, 150 pounds two-way player. Offensively- The left-handed hitter stands in with a wide base and quiet hands near the head in the box. Simple load, quick to the point of contact with a strong flat bat bath. Ball jumps off the bat, stays balanced and under control throughout the swing with a two-hand finish. Displayed a ton of line drives in the hitting portion. Had an exit velocity of 84 MPH. Defensively- Stays low with a wide base when fielding the ball. Active feet and above average laterally. Gets rid of the ball from a ¾ slot with a fast release. The throws across the diamond peaked out at 74 MPH.
