The Showcase Baseball Academy is located in Charlotte, NC and runs the SBA Canes teams at a variety of age groups.  Breaking from the summer grind, SBA kept several of their 15U teams at home of the weekend of June 28 - July 1 to participate in a intra-organization World Series.  SBA divided their 15U players into 3 teams and competed over two days, in four games, for the right to play a championship game on July 1st.

PBR was there for a majority of the series, evaluating and taking notes on the players in the SBA system.  On Saturday, PBR ran the position players through a full pro-style workout, including a sixty, live BP, and defensive evaluation.

Below is a look at each player's performance from the pro-style workout, All of the statistical information and most of the evaluations came from the workout portion of the weekend.

SBA Canes - 2020

Brett Adams OF / Charlotte Christian, NC / 2020

Average build in a left handed hitter that works from a tall base with an average stride.  Better than average bat speed has a level path, working gap-to-gap with a fluid rhythm.  Handsy, showing a feel for the barrel and how to get to the baseball.  Exit velocity peaked at 76 mph.  Long arm stroke worked to an over-the-top slot showing some carry and flashing a feel for accuracy.  Quick and clean with the exchange after playing through the ball with athleticism.  Arm speed measured at 74 mph.  Ran a 7.63 sixty.

Taisei Asano RHP / OF / Marvin Ridge, NC / 2020

Some strength in a still maturing body.  A day after working on the bump showed average carry and well above average accuracy from the outfield.  Plays through the baseball with ease and clean exchanges.  Works to a long arm stroke, bottoming out slightly.  Over-the-top slot touched 70 from right field.  Ran a 7.69 sixty.  Right handed hitter is balanced with a wide base.  Weight shift load, small stride.  Lacks some back side action.  Found the barrel with a hook type swing producing a lot of pull side comfort.  Exit velocity topped at 81 off the barrel.

Connor Ashley C / Covenant Day School, NC / 2021

Slightly open and tall to start from the right side, loads back, using a weight shift for timing.  Leg kick and short stride convert to a level path, producing line drives, staying in the middle of the field. Good rhythm but needs to continue to add strength and quickness to the bat.  Frame is still developing.  Showed a feel for the barrel in BP.  Exit velocity measured at 70 off the barrel.  Pop times ranged 2.43-2.58 with a positional velocity of 63 out of the crouch.  Long arm action and low exchange created some fade on the baseball.  Ran a 8.17 sixty

Andrei Beal RHP / 3B / Parkwood, NC / 2020

Strong frame showed some carry on the ball from the outfield.  Arm speed measured at 78 mph with a long arm swing working to an over-the-top slot.  Showed accuracy.  Worked to play through the baseball, exchanging and transitioning the baseball with ease.  Balanced in the box, uses a short stride, with waggle in the bat head to start the swing.  Launch position is inconsistent with the waggle, creating some barrel awareness issues.  Exit velocity did ramp up to 79 mph off the barrel.  Heavy on the front side after the stride, looks for extension, staying in the middle of the field.  Ran a 7.70 sixty.

Michael Beunau SS / Sun Valley, NC / 2020

Lanky left handed hitter works from a crouched position, loading back, and using a short stride.  Stays gap-to-gap with good rhythm.  The bat speed can improve, and should with strength added to the frame.  Exit velocity peaked at 73 when on the barrel.  The ability to center the ball can improve.  Average hands work to funnel the ball to the midsection before a long arm arc transitions to a ¾ slot producing some carry across the infield.  Arm speed topped at 65 mph.  Accuracy was erratic as balls were played deep into the body creating some rhythm issues with the feet.  Ran a 7.94 sixty.
