Top Performer Report

'24 SS/RHP Kyle DeGroat (Wallkill) had himself a day during the PAS - Downstate (PM) session. DeGroat was near the top of the leaderboard in about every category that he worked out in. He was 1st in FB max velo, 3rd in exit velo, 1st in infield velo, and in the top ten for 60 yard dash times. DeGroat is a handsy hitter with pop in his barrel. The primary SS has good feel for the barrel and is able to routinely hit balls back up the middle with strength. In the infield, DeGroat is raw but has the tools to be solid as he progresses. The stand out tool is obviously the arm strength from SS, where he was able to post an 87 MPH velo across the infield. When Kyle steps on the mound, it brings in the question of "where will he find himself playing at the next level?". DeGroat is sound in the infield, but when he gets on the mound he is also very impressive. DeGroat is strong in the lower half and holds the hinge down the mound nicely until he hits his front foot. One thing we know for sure about DeGroat is that he has well above average arm speed. With a 3 pitch mix, he is surely able to keep hitters off balance. The FB tops at 86.4 MPH while he sits in the 85-86 MPH range, showing that he is able to maintain velocity and not just post one big number. The CB is a very sweepy pitch with some depth to it, while the CH holds plane and just runs arm side.
