'23 LHP/OF Dominick Carbone (Rocky Point) might have had one of the best all around performances of the entire preseason in NY. The uncommitted two way prospect topped the leaderboards in multiple categories. Carbone started the scout day by posting a quick 6.66 laser timed 60 yard dash. Without showing any other tools, Carbone proves himself as a capable outfielder based on foot speed alone. At the plate, Carbone swings a sweet, sweeping swing from the left side with ease in the mechanics. There is rarely a time where Carbone out-swings his frame. the bat plays flat through the zone with a little pick up toward the end of the swing, allowing him to produce hard hit lifted line drives. With a peak exit velo of 96.6 MPH via Trackman, Carbone proves even further that he has the strength and speed to play the outfield. Defensively, Carbone moves well to the ball and is able to field/throw all in one natural movement. The throw is delivered from a high 3/4 slot and he runs it up to 94 MPH from the OF. We can assume at 94 MPH that Carbone most likely has exceptional carry on his ball flight. Finally, from the mound, Carbone continues to excel. The LHP works a repeatable motion down the mound with late arm acceleration through the release. The late life in Carbone's arm is what is able to yield 90 MPH heaters. Carbone's off speed is still a bit raw as his CH checks in around 85 MPH, although it does have exceptional movement. The CH may not have the difference in velo to get hitters on their front foot, but it certainly has enough movement to induce weak/deflected contact. Carbone is one of the most athletic players in his class and appears to have the ability to get better.
