Young stands in at 5-foot-10, 170-pounds with a clean athletic frame. Ran a 7.03 – 60, slightly higher than his previous best of 6.91 set in June 2017. Offensively- Righty sets up square to the pitcher with his feet wide outside shoulder width. Shows a slight knee bend with an upright torso holding the bat in front of the back shoulder using little pre-pitch bat movement. On pitch, his trigger is a quick knee raise in towards the back leg to stride forward while his hands move back into the hitting position. Utilizes good lower body rotation getting his whole-body frame involved in the process of the swing. Shows quick hands into the hitting zone with a level barrel path throughout into a high two-handed finish. Demonstrated line drive ability up the middle and to the pull side during batting practice round. Showed a clean, fluid swing making solid contact. Recorded an exit velocity of 87 MPH, a 4 MPH improvement from June 2017. Defensively- . Shows a good approach to the baseball. Crow hop mechanics could be quicker while gaining more ground prior to the throw. Gets behind the ball well prior to making the catch but could also use a longer outfielder arm swing. Recorded a positional arm velocity in the outfield of 78 MPH, 6 MPH shy of his best mark of 84 MPH set in June 2017.
