Tippecanoe 2014 catcher BJ Donathan recently returned from three unofficial college visits to schools in Florida.

The 5-foot-10, 190-pound backstop is best known for his catch and receive skills behind the plate.

During his recent stop in the Sun Shine State, he visited Florida Atlantic, Tamp University, and St. Leo University, who first saw Donathan at the Top Prospect Games in June.

In addition, he made a recent visit to Michigan State.

Looking ahead, Donathan said, "I will be visiting Belmont Abbey College (NC) and Mount Olive College (NC) in October, and Tampa again in November."

Reflecting on his visits, the catcher noted, "The coaches have been great to talk to.  I like their teaching styles."

He added, "Several of the coaches I have connected with have a lot of experience training catchers and that appeals to me. Pete Jenkins at Belmont Abbey trained Buster Posey."

Donathan, who also excels academically with a 3.7 GPA and a 29 ACT, is paying particular attention to academics in the midst of his decision making process.

"My major is pre-med, so I like the small class size and emphasis on academics, as well as a history of winning baseball programs," he noted.

With his recruiting process still very much open, Donathan concluded, "I really don’t have a leader. I’m just enjoying the visits and seeing the campuses to see what fits best for my next four years."
