2015 Preseason Players of the Year

When it comes to the 2015 Preseason Position Player of the Year, the first guy we looked at was DJ Wilson (Vanderbilt, pictured right) and after doing so we came to the conclusion he was the man for the award. Although the Canton South outfielder won't impress you with his size, after you watch him play you will see why he will continue his playing career at Vanderbilt or professional baseball via the draft. The 5-foot-10 outfielder shows the speed to play center field while also having the ability to steal bases (3.19 steal time). The left-handed hitter has surprising power for his size with the capability to leave the yard at anytime. "One of the first times I saw DJ was at Kent State over the summer of his sophomore year where he hit a ball over the fence and off the scoreboard in right field," stated JD Heilmann, Ohio Scouting Director. Nathan Rode, PBR National Supervisor feels Wilson is a definite follow this spring as a draft prospect as seen here.

Among others that were in consideration were: Roger Danison (Xavier), Evan Lee (Kent State) and Casey Demko (Ohio State).

After reading all those names you may be asking the question, where is Sam Bordner? Well that is where the 2015 Preseason Pitcher of the Year award is going. 

Yes, Bordner definitely could have been in consideration for the Preseason Position Player of the Year (.363 BA, 11 2B, 2 HR, 29 RBIs, 20 R, 20 BB, 1.037 OPS in 2014, pictured right), but on the mound is where the 6-foot-6, 220-pound solidly built prospect's future is right now. He makes defending state champion Bloom-Carroll one of the favorites to claim another state title. The 2015 Preseason Pitcher of the Year will not only go for back-to-back state championships, he will be a possible draft prospect this upcoming MLB draft. His fastball comes from an effortless delivery that has been up to 92 mph. In 2014 Bordner went 9-0 in 54 2/3 innings, allowing just 7 runs (3 ER, 0.38 ERA) while striking out 75. We are also anxious to see if he makes a jump in velocity this spring. The 2015 season could be a very special one for the Bulldogs and this P/1B is one of the main reasons. Among others that were in consideration were: Ryan Falls (Polk State), Shay Smiddy (Louisville), Layne Schnitz-Paxton (Toledo), Braun Miller (Malone) and Drew Morrison (UNC Charlotte).
