2015 Preseason Players of the Year

Perennial Power Newark Catholic won the state championship in 2013, reached the state final in 2014 and could very likely make a return trip to Columbus in June. One of the main reasons for that is Rob Engle (uncommitted, pictured right) who is the leader in their infield at shortstop, can really swing it at the plate and will be looked upon for key innings on the hill for the Green Wave. Last year at state, the 2015 Preseason Position Player of the Year had five assists while going 3-7 at the plate.

According to JD Heilmann, Ohio Scouting Director: "The scrappy shortstop will impress you the more you watch him play. He has been a solid defender and has shown his ability to hit each year. Once again he will lead Newark Catholic and be mister reliable."

Others in consideration: E.J. Kissel, Jackson Lammers and Blaze Glenn.

The 2015 Preseason Pitcher of the Year award goes to Parker Ruffer. The University of Toledo commit had 77 Ks in 54 innings in 2014 for Stryker and looks to improve those numbers in 2015. The 6-foot-5, 190-pound righty is a gifted athlete who this winter during basketball season averaged 20+ points and 10+ rebounds a game. 

According to JD Heilmann: "The Toledo commit has kept getting better each year. When he first came on the scene his fastball sat around 80 mph. Now his fastball sits at 85 mph with a feel of three pitches."

Now that he has played his final HS basketball game, Ruffer will be an interesting follow over the next few years as he is sure to grow as a pitcher during his time as a Rocket.
