2/5 Unsigned Senior Showcase: The Outfielders



Today, we break down the top outfielders from February 5th Unsigned Senior Showcase in Columbus. With over 15 colleges present, over 50 prospects showed off their skills heading into their last season of high school baseball. Videos will be uploaded in the coming days.

Jake Wright

1. Jake Wright, OF/RHP, Delaware Hayes
Solid, muscular prospect with average height. Registered a 5.31 40-yard dash. Potential two-way prospect at the next level. In the outfield, he plays through the baseball and uses a quick transfer as he reaches a top velocity of 84 mph. Likely projects as a corner outfielder. At the plate, the left-handed hitter uses a slightly open stance with a smooth, easy load. He incorporates a strong lower half with quick bat speed. He is a line drive hitter with gap-to-gap potential. On the mound, the right-handed pitcher uses quick arm speed through an over the top arm slot. His fastball sits 81-85 mph. His curveball shows gradual 12/6 break and sits at 65-68 mph. His changeup needs additional development. He throws it near fastball arm speed, but it is straight and sits at 77-78 mph.

Mitchell Lendenski 

2. Mitchell Lendenski, MIF/OF, Loveland
Athletic, solid middle infielder that registered a 5.15 40-yard dash time on a slow, turf track.  In the field, he shows the versatility to play both the infield and outfield. In the infield, he shows a quick, clean exchange and transfer while generating a top velocity of 75 mph across the infield. In the outfield, he is aggressive and plays through the ball while reaching a top velocity of 82 mph. At the plate, the left-handed hitter uses an open setup with a big load. He shows an explosive lower half and quick bat speed with a slight uphill path to the ball.

Taylor Cooper 

3. Taylor Cooper, LHP/OF, Defiance
Small, athletic prospect that registered a 5.18 40-yard dash. In the outfield, he shows fluid, athletic actions. He reached a top velocity of 82 mph. At the plate, the left-handed hitter uses rotational mechanics. He uses a balance setup with quick bat speed to hit consistent line drives to all fields. He will increase his power by improving the use of his lower half. On the mound, the left-hander shows quick arm speed through a high ¾ arm slot. His fastball sits 82-84 mph and shows natural cut. His curveball sits 64-65 mph with 1/7 breaking action. His changeup is thrown near fastball arm speed and sits at 70-71 mph.

Kirk Yates 

4. Kirk Yates, OF, Adena
Tall, athletic prospect that registered a 5.03 40-yard dash time. From the outfield, he uses long arm action through a high ¾ arm slot to reach a top velocity of 82 mph. He shows fluid footwork and plays through the baseball. At the plate, the right-handed hitter displays a lot of raw potential. He sets up in a narrow stance with a slight crouch. He lacks full use of his lower half, but makes up for it with strong hands and quick bat speed. With his size and strength, he shows power potential at the next level.

Rylee Rogers 

5. Ryan Rogers, 1B/OF, Avon
Ripped, athletic prospect that registered a 5.2 40-yard dash. He has the potential to play first base or outfield. He reached a top velocity of 78 mph. At the plate, the left-handed hitter uses rotational mechanics with an explosive lower half and quick bat speed. He shows some pop in his swing. (Rogers is recovering from a separated shoulder that occurred during the football season)

Maurice McPherson 

6. Maurice McPherson, OF/RHP, Whetstone
Tall, athletic prospect that registered a 5.35 40-yard dash time. From the outfield, the right-hander uses long arm action through a high ¾ arm slot to reach a top velocity of 77 mph. He shows athleticism in all his actions and consistently plays through the ball. At the plate, the right-hander uses a wide base with an explosive lower half. He shows quick bat speed and solid contact when he squares the ball up. On the mound, the right-hander uses a quick rhythm and above average arm speed. His fastball sits 76-79 mph and shows some run. He uses a 67-69 mph curveball with late break and a 66-67 mph slider that stays on one plane.

Nicholas Bellman

7. Nicholas Bellman, OF/LHP, Kings

Tall, solid prospect that registered a 5.29 40-yard dash. From the outfield, he uses a low ¾ arm slot to reach a top velocity of 81 mph. At the plate, he sets up in a slight crouch. He shows pull power at the plate with an explosive lower-half. On the mound, the southpaw uses long arm action through a low ¾ arm slot. His fastball sits at 78-79 mph. His 2/8 curveball sits at 61-63 mph, but lacks consistency in the zone. His straight change is thrown near fastball arm speed and sits at 72-73 mph. 

 

Best of the Rest

AJ Veach, OF, Buckeye Valley
Solid, athletic prospect that registered a 5.26 40-yard dash. From the outfield, he reached a top velocity of 70 mph. He needs to play more aggressive and through the baseball. At the plate, the right-handed hitter uses a slightly open stance with a short stride. He shows above average bat speed with a short path to the ball. He squared the ball up well and showed some power potential.

Austin Greene, OF, Bishop Watterson
Athletic, average-sized prospect that registered a 5.48 40-yard dash time. From the outfield, the left-hander uses short arm action through a high ¾ to over the top arm slot to reach a top velocity of 73 mph. He shows good footwork and plays through the baseball. At the plate, the left-handed hitter sets up in a tall stance and displays rotational mechanics. He shows above average bat speed, but has a tendency to dive at the baseball.

Austin Terry, OF, Delaware Hayes
Thin, lanky prospect that registered a 5.44 40-yard dash. From the outfield, he reached a top velocity of 69 mph. He needs to improve his footwork and play through the baseball. At the plate, he shows and inside/out swing with opposite field tendencies. He should improve his overall game as he gets physically stronger and fills out his big frame.

Austyn Parks, OF, Bishop Hartley
Thick, solid prospect that registered a 5.47 40-yard dash. From the outfield, the left-hander shows good actions, but needs to become more consistent. He reached a top velocity of 71 mph through a high ¾ arm slot. At the plate, the left-handed hitter uses rotational mechanics. His best tool is his best. He displays a balanced setup with an easy load and short stride. He uses a strong lower half and quick bat speed to create a line drive swing with power potential.

Charles Atherton, RHP/OF, Mount Vernon
Thin, wiry prospect that registered a 5.29 40-yard dash time. From the outfield, he reached a top velocity of 79. He needs to improve his footwork and aggressiveness through the baseball. At the plate, he displayed a closed stance with an inside out swing. On the mound, he uses a slow rhythm. He displayed long arm action through a high ¾ arm slot. His fastball sits 80-82 mph and shows some occasional run. His curveball sits 64-66, but he tends to cuff it. His changeup is straight and sits at 71-73 mph.

Derek Milliken, OF, Chillicothe
Average-sized, athletic prospect that registered a 5.39 40-yard dash time. From the outfield, he uses a short arm action through a high ¾ arm slot to reach a top velocity of 72 mph. At the plate, the left-handed hitter uses a balanced, athletic setup. He displays average bat speed with pull tendencies in his swing.

Dylan McCormick, OF, London, Ontario
Tall, lanky prospect that registered a 5.21 40-yard dash. From the outfield, he registered a top velocity of 76 mph from an over the top arm slot with long arm action. He is aggressive and plays through the ball. At the plate, he starts with an open stance. He has a tendency to drop his hands during his load, which affects his path to the ball and bat speed. When he puts it all together, he shows some potential at the plate, especially with his size and frame.

Kenton Ulmer, OF, Delaware Hayes
Small, athletic prospect that registered a 5.15 40-yard dash time. From the outfield, he uses short arm action through a high ¾ arm slot to reach a top velocity of 75 mph. He needs to consistently play through the baseball. At the plate, the right-handed hitter uses a slightly open stance and starts with high hands. He is a contact hitter with above average bat speed. 

Kory Shackle, OF, Mount Vernon
Tall, lanky prospect that registered a 5.33 40-yard dash. From the outfield, the right-hander uses long, loose arm action to reach a top velocity of 80 mph. He shows fluid footwork and a quick, clean exchange. At the plate, the right-handed hitter starts with an open stance. He uses a short stride and shows good balance throughout his swing. He will improve as a hitter by better incorporating his lower half and getting consistent extension at contact.
