Aurora Left-Hander Fecko Has Big Upside

AURORA - It was a different offseason for Jack Fecko.

“I quit the basketball team to train with Mike Grady and he helped get me to throw harder,” the eighth-rated 2021 left-handed pitcher in Ohio reflected. “I not only had a jump in velo, but my breaking ball moves a lot more and I’m more comfortable with it.”

While no visits have been made, thanks in part to the COVID-19 stay-at-home order, the Aurora junior previously drew college interest at camps with Ball State and Central Michigan Mid-American Conference schools intrigued. High Point, Wofford and Army are others that have the fourth-ranked uncommitted LHP in the state on their radars.

“I think the schools I’ve talked with like my projectability as a lefty,” Fecko related. “For me personally, I’m looking for a great fit. I’ve got to like the school and love the coaches. I want someone that can help with my development to get to the next level.”

Maturity and more time on the mound are ways that the 6-4 195-pounder believes improvement can be made in the future.

“I’m working to touch up a lot of my mechanics,” Fecko noted. “If I touch up my mechanics I think I can get another jump in my velo. That, along with maturity and getting bigger and stronger, will help.”

A 3.7 student planning to major in business, Fecko has been driven to be a player at the next level since eighth grade.

“I looked at myself and thought if I put my mind to it I can get to college and play,” Fecko said. “My parents said I can do it if I put my head down and work hard enough.”

That strong desire to excel is part of what the 17-year-old believes he can bring to a college.
