SHAKER HEIGHTS - His stock continues to rise.

Interest in Calvin Brown is progressing nicely.

The junior from Shaker Heights showed off his talents earlier this month at the B2 Bulls/JFG Scout Day Trials and was impressive. The second-ranked unsigned 2020 outfielder in the state topped four categories at the PBR event: Most raw power; Most tools; Best swing; and Best runner.

“He is a sleeper prospect that I think is going to make some noise heading into this spring/summer.” said Jordan Chiero, PBR Ohio Director of Scouting. “Brown has hit every time we’ve seen him, sporting a loose/whippy swing that gets through contact well. To go along with his well above average hit tool, the B2 Bulls standout also offers 6.6 speed. His stock is definitely on the rise.”

Two visits to Toledo ended in an offer and a visit to Georgetown has also resulted in interest and a potential offer pending the results of his ACT score. There has been talk with Rice and Kent State and Brown also went to Penn for a camp.

“It’s picked up recently,” Brown said of his recruitment. “I credit exposure with PBR and my coach. This is my third year with the B2 Bulls and coach (Zak) Blair has helped get my name out there. He believes in me and that I can play at the next level. I met him when I was nine and he said the opportunity to play college baseball will be there if you work.”

A center fielder with shortstop ability as well, the 46th-rated junior in Ohio has a lot to offer at the next level.

“They like my versatility,” the 6-1 180-pounder said about the colleges he has been in contact with of late. “They like that I’m able to do it all. I bring power to the plate and I’m also a quick guy that plays center field.”

Recent improvement has helped gain notoriety.
