Countdown to Signing Day: Miami's 2013 Recruiting Class

With the fall signing period starting on November 14th, PBR Ohio will be taking a look at the number of players from Ohio headed to a college program within the state’s borders. Each day, we will break down a school's class player-by-player. Earlier, we reviewed the recruiting classes from AkronBowling GreenCincinnatiDayton, and Kent State. Now, we move on to Miami University.

MIAMI UNIVERSITY

Coach Dan Simond’s shook up his staff in early June as he announced the departure of pitching coach and recruiting coordinator Ben Bachmann (now at Evansville). This left the Miami staff short-handed with Coach Simonds and assistant coach Jeremy Ison the lone staff members on the road until the arrival of Tom Kinkelaar, a Miami alumn and the former pitching coach at Georgia Tech.

With a rather light in-state 2013 class, the Redhawks incoming freshman class is highlighted by local right-handed pitcher Jacob Banks from Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy. Banks, who was sought after by several college programs in southwest Ohio, eventually issued his pledge to Coach Simonds. He is an aggressive pitcher, who uses a quick tempo along with a mid to upper 80’s fastball. Ryan Miller

Miami also added Centerville left-handed pitcher Nick Bertram, who played in the East Cobb program in the summer, and Pickerington North outfielder Ryan Miller (pictured right), a prospect with 6.6 speed and some pop in his bat.
