Andrew Sexton, OF, LaSalle, Class of 2016

PBR: Why did you choose Xavier?

Sexton: I chose Xavier because I really felt like I connected with the coaching staff in Coach Googins and Coach O’Conner. Their academics are top notch, plus, Xavier will have support for any academic needs that I would have in my career there. I really like their campus, and the improvements that they’re making to all of their facilities as well.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Sexton: NKU was the only other school that offered me that I was considering.

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you?  How did your relationship develop with them?

Sexton: They first saw me in one of my tournaments for my summer ball team. After that, Coach Googins called so we could set up a visit.

PBR: You performed extremely well at some PBR events.  How did that help your recruiting process?

Sexton: I really think that being able to go out to events in front of college coaches to showcase my skills was huge. It allowed some coaches to see me in person, and some to see my numbers on the website.

PBR: How does it feel to be a part of a Division 1 program?

Sexton: I am completely honored. To be able to say that I’m going to play for a Division 1 program is something that many kids can’t say, and I’m proud of that.

PBR:  Who do you play for in the summer and what is your most memorable experience?

Sexton: I play for the Cincinnati Hornets, and my most memorable experience was definitely having the opportunity to play up in Columbus at Huntington Park.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process?

Sexton: The recruiting process was exactly what I thought it to be. It started off slow, but then it picked up pretty heavily this past summer, right after the TPG.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Sexton: Definitely my dad. I’ve spent countless hours practicing with him, and his knowledge for baseball is through the roof, considering he played professionally. He has been my coach for 8+ years, and I could not be more grateful for what he has done for me.

PBR: What were your stats this spring season?

Sexton: Spring: AVG-.312  OBP-.394  2B-3  RBI-14  R-24  SB-14       Summer:  AVG-.341  OBP-.426  2B-8  3B-4  HR-1  RBI-21  R-38  SB-16

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher that you have faced in Ohio?

Sexton: The best pitcher I’ve faces was definitely Grant Macciocchi from Moeller. I’ve faced other great pitchers too, such as Nick Bennett, Shay Smiddy, and Jake Allen.
