Clint Conner, Dublin Scioto HS, Class of 2016

PBR: Why did you choose Mount Vernon Nazarene?

Conner: I chose Mount Vernon because they have an outstanding baseball program. I also was told I could get a lot of innings my freshman year which had a key part in it. Lastly 3 other kids on my summer baseball team are currently committed there which also persuaded me to go there.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Conner: Sinclair, Lake Erie College, or walking onto Ohio University

PBR: Where did Coach Veale first see you? How did your relationship develop with the coaching staff?

Conner:  He actually didn’t see me 1st. Coach Brown saw me in the summer a couple times and at a couple camps. He then wanted me to come for a visit and which is where I threw a bullpen and 1st met coach Veale.

PBR: What are the coaching staffs expectations for you once step foot on campus?

Conner: They want me to throw 80 plus innings in the 1st year.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what is your most memorable summer baseball experience?

Conner: The Ohio Surge. My most memorable moment was my 1st start for them. I only knew my catcher 'Ryan Keel' from school ball and no on the team knew what to expect from me. I came out and had a no hitter going until the 7th with 2 outs and I gave up my 1st hit and only hit of the game.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Conner: My brother because he was always bigger and better then me at baseball. That really strived me to work and become a better baseball player then him. He then quit baseball and only played football he became very good at football. I knew baseball was my better sport so I worked to become the best I could be.

PBR: What were your stats this spring?

Conner: I have an ERA of 1.8 around 35 K’s. I have only thrown about 25 Innings this season. 9-1 Strikeout to walk ratio.

PBR: Who is the best hitter that you have ever faced?

Conner: Noah West from Westerville Central. He has extremely quick hands and it is very hard to get my fastball by him. If you make a bad pitch and throw him a ball in the middle of the plate somewhere he will hit it extremely hard somewhere.
