Inside the Recruitment: '17 RHP/OF Andrew Abrahamowicz commits to Nebraska

PBR: Why did you choose Nebraska?

Abrahamowicz: The combination of the coaches and facilities were unreal.  The history of athletics and the great academic opportunities made it an easy decision.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Abrahamowicz: Cincinnati, Louisville, Virginia , and Kentucky 

PBR:  Where did the Nebraska coaches first see you play?

Abrahamowicz: Coach Silva saw me play for Team Ohio at the PBR Futures Games.  I was in contact with him shortly after that.  There was a great level of comfort and trust that grew and continued when I made my visit.  That coupled with the chance to play for a head coach like Coach Erstad is amazing.

PBR: Was the recruiting process what you expected?

Abrahamowicz: It seemed like things got rolling really fast.  All of a sudden, I was in touch with a number of great coaches.  It is very difficult to choose when so many coaches treat you with so much respect.  I am glad that I was able to make the visits and figure things out fairly soon.

PBR:  This past summer you participated in PBR’s Future Games, how much did the recruiting scene change after the event?

Abrahamowicz: I would tell any underclassman that this is the best event out there. Coach Valentine and Coach Heilmann were amazing to spend time with and my teammates were great as well.  It was overwhelming to see so many head coaches and recruiting coordinators at this event.  Being one of only a few players on Team Ohio from the 2017 class, I was not sure what to expect.  Things really got moving after getting back from Indiana.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was the most memorable experience from this summer?

Abrahamowicz:  I play for the Lake Erie Warhawks.  This summer I played 17u as a 15u eligible player.  I had the chance to throw against the GRB Rays in the APWS in Kent.  I threw a tough complete game loss but felt we played well as a lot of our team was very young.  To play against that type of talent was the highlight of the summer.

PBR:  You are a two-way player in high school.  Do the Nebraska coaches expect you to the same when you arrive on campus?

Abrahamowicz: Coach Erstad says he wants me to continue to swing when I get to school.  I am definitely going there with high expectations on the mound.  The coaches said that I would be looked at in the outfield or first base since I will need to save my arm. 

PBR: Who is the toughest hitter that you have faced in Ohio?

Abrahamowicz: Sean Darmafall has always been tough to get out.  I am glad we are on the same team in high school.
