Opportunity To Play In The South Excites Black

Clayton Black RHP / 1B / Miamisburg, OH / 2019

MIAMISBURG - Growing up, Clayton Black dreamed about playing college baseball in Florida.

It looks like the state of North Carolina will have to do after the Miamisburg senior made a commitment to play at North Carolina Central.

“Coach (Ben) Simon (Brownlee Lookouts) told them about me and they liked what he was saying,” Black noted. “He told them about my numbers and after seeing me in a game (at Duke University in late July) they asked me to come on a visit. I went on a visit right after that and they offered me.

“They walked me around campus and I liked what I saw and how it was set up. The field was amazing. It looks like turf but it’s not. It’s really taken care of.”

Then came decision time.

“I waited three weeks,” the 6-5 258-pounder said. “I had Toledo and Campbell to consider.”

But the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Division I school located in Durham, N.C. won out.

“Ever since I was little I’ve wanted to play in the south,” admitted Black. “It’s a totally different atmosphere down there.

“I’d always said when I was younger I wanted to play in Florida. I had family members in that area and thought that would be neat to play there.”
